What would be a good skateboard combination?

Skateboard for a 2 Year Old?

  • Ok so. My son will be 2 next month :) about a week ago we were watching a show on tv, and they had a segment about skateboarding. So ever since then every time any kind of skateboard/skateboarder comes on tv he nearly leaps out of his seat and yells "LOOK!! SKATEBOARD! SKATEBOARD!!" Today he came up to me and put out his hand and goes "skateboard?" and I said "I don't have a skateboard..." and he says "skateboard please." and I asked "you want me to get you a skateboard?" and he puts his hand down and says "yes" (while nodding) so I'm like "would you like a skateboard for your birthday?" and smiles and says "Yes! birthday! Skateboaaard" So after that he sat in my lap and we watched skateboarding videos on YouTube for over 30 minutes and he was mesmerized the whole time. One video was 5 minutes of Tony Hawk just going back and fourth on a half pipe! So I really want to get him one for his birthday now. But I want to know how others will react because he is very young... So y'all give me your opinion, what do you think?

  • Answer:

Yes it's a good idea but you need the proper safety gears. Being involve in sports helps your kid physically and mentally. One more thing, buy him a small skateboard 1st and see whether his enthusiastic. Be there at all times when he is skating.

when my son was 2 he wanted to get his ears pierced, he's 3 and wants a skateboard now, I think it could be a bit dangerous, so you'll need to get him a helmet and pads and only let him start on grass and obviously watch him like a hawk!

Here is what you want to get. A radio flyer scoot 2 skate. http://www.amazon.com/Radio-Flyer-Scoot-2-Skate/dp/B003554F4O/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1327522507&sr=1-1 Don't forget the helmet and pads.

I think it's a bad idea. Skateboards are not at all age appropriate for a two year old. They do not have the fine motor skills necessary to operate one with the reasonable expectation that they won't get hurt. At that age, they really do need something to hold on to with their hands. Fisher Price and Radio Flyer both make small skateboards that have handles which can be converted to "regular" skateboards which might be ok. But even then, you need to remember that a two year old is still in the monkey-see, monkey-do stage and he WILL try to do those cool tricks he sees the skateboarders on you-tube doing. And that might not end well. Personally I'd wait at least another year for him to develop better motor skills before getting him something that sends so many kids to the emergency room.
