When are ACT's actually necessary?

My son acts shy around people when?

  • Ok my 3 yr old is a very outgoing person when hes at home and very happy, hes been going to his daycare for about 5 months and has gotten to know the other children and teachers real well...The teachers say hes the big helper and he has a good imagination, when i go to pick him up i see i watch for a little bit to see how he acts. To my suprise he gets along well with others and is very talkitive, but when i walk in and he sees me he acts shy again and wont talk to anyone he acts like its the first day of daycare again! Can someone please tell me why he does this....He soes this with everyone its like as soon as i show up other people are non exsistant? is something wrong?

  • Answer:

WHY IS EVERYONE SAYING SHE'S EMBARRASSING HIM? HE'S 3 YEARS OLD FOR GOD'S SAKE!!! 3 YEAR OLDS DO NOT GET EMBARRASSED OF THEIR PARENTS!!! He's fine. I do daycare for my church and it's the funniest thing to see the 2 and 3 year olds when their parents get there - I swear for 80% of them, everything else in the world disappears. They do that thing where they run over and wrap themselves around Mommy's legs and hide their face hehehehe... They hide behind her legs again like they just got there, it's so funny... not in a "ha-ha" funny way, you know. Just cute. It's like they suddenly remember that they didn't want Mommy to leave them there to begin with. "Oh yeah, you left me! Hey, don't do that again!" Don't worry he'll get over it and there's nothing wrong with him :)

You are his number one, and when you walk in, it's all over! He has YOU to pay attention to him now -- that's what matters most. My 3rd child was the same way, and he grew out of it before kindergarten started. He realized there was more to life than getting mom to pay attention to him!

nothing is wrong, my 5 year old did this until he was 4. he finally became so comfortable with the setting that he ran right in without waiting and wouldn't want to leave. his behavior is fully normal and to be expected at his age. he is doing it as a means of expressing that you have his attention after having such a long day away from mommy

He might be afraid that its not okay to talk to other people, especially if he thinks you dont know them, which would make his friends all "strangers" Just make sure you tell him its okay to make friends as long as he's carful!!!! And remeber, he's only 3, so he's still got alot of growing to do!!!

He's totally normal for his age. My son is five and was the exact SAME way. AND FOR ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT SAID SHE IS EMBARRASSING HIM YOU ARE SO MEAN FOR SAYING STUFF LIKE THAT. GET A LIFE INSTEAD OF MAKING PEOPLE FEEL BAD ABOUT THEMSELVES!!!!

im thinking that when your the only mom there and he is playing with all of his friends he is probably thinking oh my moms here and there moms aren't here or he could be thinking now i cant do whatever i wanted to do because i dont know what my mom will say he may just be nervous i know he is 3 but he can still get nervous so dont ask him about it it might make him feel uncomfertable. good luck with your son he souns sweet

ThatsHot<3

he thinks you'll probably say something embarrassing around his new friends or he just doesn't know how to adjust to a conversation involving you and his friends

no offense because I have this problem with my children as well....he is spoiled by you. You ae his comfort and he knows he can act this way now that you are around. He respects the teachers authority and knows the rules...its actually smart not anything wrong.

How do you react when he acts this way? At this point I'd say it's some type of Pavlovian response. Most likely where you've developed a conditioned response to his stimuli. Is he an only child? Was it pretty much you and him all day long up until he started daycare? Unfortunately your question leads to too many other questions before any helpful answer/solution could be recommended.
