What is a climbing block?

How can I block my son from climbing onto his window sill?

  • My son is two years old and I tried stapling a piece of cloth over the window, but he pulled it down. So blocking the window off is not an option. I am very worried he is going to fall and hurt himself badly. HELP PLEASE!!

If explaining how dangerous the situation is and punishment doesn't make your son stop you're right in that you still need to protect your son. Get a top of the stairs gate and install it across your window. The any-angle one from One Step Ahead jumps into mind as you can install it at, well, at any angle. :) We have that one at the top of our stairs, and it's not the easiest to use, but since you won't need to open it all that often, if ever, then the issues of the gate become pretty nonexistent. They have it in wood or white metal. It's a tad pricey but worth it if you can't get your son to stay off the sill. ETA: Be sure to check out the photos in the attached link as it shows both types across windows as well as at the top of the stairs.

You need to let him know how serious this climbing is, and when he does it; put him in time out; like in your room or in the hall way but not in his room, that way he understands that if he keeps doing it, then he won't be able to play in his room. I hope I could help, Good Luck.

if he can't understand that he shouldn't be on the window sill, put like a big thing in front of it that he can't climb on, or like one of those play-crib things.... idk the name of it, but hopefully you get what i mean by that... make it impossible for him to climb.

Teaching of course is Key... But at your Local Home Depot they sell whats called a door screen. It is usually used on the botton of screen doors (goes 1/2 way up) 4 simple screws which you can repair later after that stage. It can assist you in keeping your child from that plunge.. Of course nothing is 100% but it's screwed on the inside so it will help. You still get air and have control of the window.. Looks..well? I've seen worse but I'd rather have a child alive ! GL
