What is the going rate for an overnight house sitter?

What is the going rate for a teen age baby sitter?

  • We are looking for a baby sitter and wasn't sure what the appropriate rate is that we should offer. We live in the Chicago suburbs with two boys, 1 yr & 3 yrs old. Both have average needs (i.e. no special needs req'd). We would be looking for a girl over the age of 14. I would imagine that the rate should also depend on the responsibilities. 1. Rate during the day with 100% care. 2. Rate after bedtime when they can do homework, watch tv, or talk on the phone, etc. 3. If they need to spend the night in the spare room. Also, would the rate be age dependant? Thanks!

  • Answer:

$7.50 an hour. The teenager doesn't have any degrees/training. $7.50 is plenty to watch a 1 & 3 year old.

It may be age dependant if they haven't got a job. Maybe $6-9 an hour

I have paid anywhere from $5 to $10 per hour. ( I have 4 boys) It definitely should depend on the age and responsibilities required. In your situation I would pay up to $7 or $8 for an older experienced sitter. Some people negotiate a flat fee for a given period of time. For example, I will pay you $20 for you to sit from 6 pm to 10 pm. (2 hours of kids awake and 2 hours of kids asleep) I do this especially for longer periods of time. ps...when I was a teenager and lived in the Chicago suburbs I charged $1 - $2 per hour, of course that was 25 years ago!

babysitting is a begginning job, a practice job if you will. i know that most kids would be exceptionally pleased to recieve six fifty and hour, which you know is usually around minimum wage. if the applicant has greater maturity or hardier requirements (ie cpr and first aid) you can always levitate the pay rate to fit the chosen girl. be wise, she is offering a service, if you are greedy about the funds she might receive i can see the child care not being a priority nor respect to you and your home.

1. $10 dollars an hour. Leave money for lunch outings, etc. 2. $8 dollars an hour. 3. $40 dollars flat for the night. This is the rate that my friends I go by when babysitting, and we are all 13-16.

When I babysat in the 1990's I made 6 bucks an hour, regardless of hour or what I was doing. I would imagine the rate to be $10 an hour or so for evening and maybe a flat rate of $50 for the day or night.

pinwheelbandit

5-10$an hour

1. 10 dollars an hour 2. 10 dollars an hour 3. 12 dollars an hour. yes, age dependent. if the babysitter is in college or older, up it to 15 an hour.
