What is the best type of swing set?

Should I get a swing set?

  • I have a 19 months old son who loves being outdoors. We have a baby swing hung from a tree (tree may be coming down this summer) and a Little Tikes Hide and Slide. He ignores both of those, would rather walk to the park or play with his truck, ball etc. My mil has an older metal swing set with plastic slide she wants to give us. If is in decent shape but would probably still require some time and money to get set up. We have a large yard but use it often when baby sitting (and hopefully soon with our son) to play soccer or toss a football. So parents with swing sets, is it worth it to set up the "free" swing set or upset my mil and say no? I know that eventually he would play on a swing set but right now he would rather walk to the park, play for 10 minutes,mostly with the rocks and then walk home.

    I wouldn't bother. Those metal swingsets are junk and they're cheap, should you want to purchase one. I'd wait and invest in a good wooden set in another two years or so. He's too young at this point to really use and enjoy the set. It's not safe for him at this point.

i would say no.....if he already ignores the ones he has then he just isnt that bothered. a friend of mine bought high quality steel slide, see saw and swing set for her 3 children and they dont even bother with them. the youngest fella uses the see saw as a toy catapult. if you dont want to upset 'mil' then maybe keep them in storage until he becomes interested in them. there's no point taking up your lawn space for something that will just become an obstacle.

get the swing set, you can always remove it later if your life style changes.

My 19 month old has a wooden swing set with the playhouse on top, glider, baby swing, real swing, and slide. She loves climbing up and going down the slide. She swings on the real swing by herself. She really loves it......she also has a little tikes slide, but doesn't like it as well.
