  • Just curious - What age was your child when they first learned to (1) Jump (2) Hop on 1 foot (3) Do a Roley Poley? Just curious - What age was your child when they first learned to.. (1) Jump (2) Hop on one foot (3) Do a 'Roley Poley' (roley poley = roll over head to land on back on floor mat, like a tumbling movement)?

  • Answer:

My guys are 23 months old and can jump using both feet at once, hop on one foot, and have done roley poley's, but not on command. They jump and hop on command, but the roley poley's just happen when they happen. They started jumping using both feet and hopping on one foot a couple months ago, about the same time I first saw them do a somersault (Roley Poley). Most kids don't jump using both feet or hop on one foot until age 2. I think the Roley Poley can be very early if it is taught.

My daughter could jump at about 15 months......hop on one foot at about 2 1/2 and do a summer sault is how I know it, or roley poley to you...at about 18 months. My son is 13 months and is barely walking so not hoping yet, but he can do a summer sault sometimes if he can get his head under enough. I have seen him do it twice.

1) and 2) - well, before 2 years actually. #3 is called a tumble not roley poley. Well, unless they see it done they won't do it. Oh, that is for my three sons, #3 does #1 and 2 at 20 months. And he can skip and has done so for 4 months.

Jump - 10 months Hop on one foot - 15 mos "Roley Poley" - 9 years old Actually tried a roley at 17 months but it was in the lawn and I was mowing at the time. Long story short there were five or six years where jumping and hoping didn't happen either.

Everywhere but AMERICA sucks

My daughter didn't jump (with both feet off of the floor) until she was 18 months, she still has trouble hoping on one foot and she is three, she started tumbling at 20 months but that was because she was in gymnastics.
