How can I find my groups?

How can I find and join play groups for a 2 year old?

  • My son will be two next month, and I have been looking for some play groups for him in my town. The only one we have found, the people in it were very rude to all of us, they didn't welcome us at all. How can I find some decent play groups? And does it cost anything? I live in Kansas.

    Another place to look for parents is at the mall on weekdays. You might be able to find some friends for a playgroup at kid stores or in the foodcourt area. DOn't be shy. Most parents are happy to talk to parents of other similarly aged kids because it is so consuming and overwhelming to be a parent to a toddler/preschooler. There are several national mom groups that do regular playgroups. One is MOPS-- it also has a Christian/religious affiliation (http://www.mops.org/) . Another is MomsClub (check http://www.momsclub.org/welcome.html for a local chapter) Both can be great sources of support and info and playtime for your little one. Another place to look for playgroups is a local advertising directory that lists activities for kids and parents in your area. These can usually be found near the door of stores like Toys R Us or Babies R Us, and some grocery stores or specialty baby or kid related stores. Some groups charge a small annual membership fee around $20-30 dollars to cover postage and other costs of the group, but if you can afford it, it is worth it. Definitely keep looking until you find a group you click with.

You could always take him to a kiddie gym where he can play with other kids in a safe enviorment, and give you a chance to meet other moms while he gets a little excersize too. You could also check with the churches in your area, I'm sure they have groups.

You can also go to babycenter.com. Go to the message board (search local, don't search for playgroups just read the postings. They have a lot of mothers trying to find playgroups as well as people who have info on them). You can also find a playgroup at www.playgroupsusa.com. Also check www.craigslist.org (find your city then go to community then groups (I checked for Kansas city and there were several). Check with the churches (my church has a playgroup) and I have also met a lot of moms through my son's mothers day out program and we have formed our own playgroup. Good luck.

go to the same park frequently and you will run into parents that are doing the same and then start establishing one of your own.

See if they have Gymboree, they have those all over the place here in the south.

There's alot of towns that have a New Comers group!Its for children of all ages!There is also M.O.P.S.,just look it up on the computer and enter your town!Good Luck!

Check out the online community www.craigslist.org if you are in or near a big city in Kansas. There is a childcare section there and I always see people posting about playgroups. There is also a community section that you could look at. You can search on there and see if you find any or you can start your own and put up some info and see who responds. It is a free online community so it won't cost you anything and you'll be surprised at how much the site has to offer. Hope this helps!
