How much should a 2 year old iguana eat?

How do I get my 2 year old to eat properly?

  • Lately I am having major trouble getting her to eat. She is refusing almost everything. She used to eat some dinner, now she just plays with it and then goes to bed, she will maybe eat a bit of meat but she will never touch her vegies. I just had an argument with her because she would eat her sandwich for lunch and I am just at the end of my rope. She NEEDS to eat!! After all the crying and anger was over I gave her a banana and she ate that and then fell asleep. Her diet consists entirely of polony, crackers, cereal, banana and apple and like any kid she will eat chicken nuggets and chips. She wont eat anything else unless its junk food, she wont even eat cheese. What do I do?

My daughter turns 2 at the end of June, and right now she is going through the same thing! she has excuses not eat for everything she doesnt like.. pasta is dirty to her, her tummy is sore, she has to go poop, ect.. its a phase that goes hand-in-hand with the terrible 2s. They play these games because they know that we will eventually give in and give them something they like so that we are comfortable knowing that they ate SOMETHING! or they will be put to to bed, thus, getting out of having to eat something they dont like either way, but a child will not starve themself, they will eat when theyre hungry! My daughter also drinks ALOT of juice and/or milk during the day, which i know is filling her up too.. this phase has just started, so i myself am trying to figure out solutions! the best advice i have is to (during the day for breakfast, lunch, & snack) give her what she will eat, waffles are good, poptarts, scrambled eggs, even cereal during the day is fine, its healthy and it gives them what they need to get through the day..and when it comes to dinner, its fine if they wont eat..dont give into the game, put her to bed.. no desert & no other meal choices. She will have had enough throughout the day to keep her going! as far as vegies go..thats another hard one for my daughter, but she really like aspargus with a small bit of butter, i tell her theyre trees, vegies on pizza.. theyre are solutions to alot of things! its always trial and error ... and its hard! but ive come to the conclusion that it hurts us more than its hurting them! well i hope i could help : )

Stop fighting her on it!! You are making it a big deal! Pay no attention to her if she doesn't eat, give her plenty of good praise when she does eat eg-"I'm glad that you ate that yummy banana it will help you to grow big and strong" When she doesn't eat you are giving her the attention she craves. A child will not starve themselves. Positive reinforcement when she does eat is what she needs. Ignore when she doesn't eat!

dont try to get the 2 year old to eat properly. you should wait till he is 3 or 4 before u worry about. i was like that when i was that age but got over the habit by 4. so just give it time

You can't and there is no point in trying. Most kids go through this. Kids eat when they need to. As long as they are on the growing curve (maybe give him a kids multi-vitamin) they'll be just fine.

Don't worry. Both of my kids went through the same thing. (I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old.) One thing that helped with my kids was not allowing them to have so much to drink. They only wanted to drink juice and milk all day and not touch their food. So I made a rule at the table.....one bite, one drink. They eventually started eating. I don't know if this is a problem with her, but if there is something else that she really likes you could try using that. (even if it is a toy or activity) Sounds bad to bribe them, but hey....they gotta eat right! I'm sure it's just a stage she's going through and she'll be eating better soon. Good luck!:-)

Take away the junk food and make it only a reward for eating something good. My boys know that at suppertime they have to take atleast 2 bites of everything on their plate in order to have their desert and I limit how much junk food they can have. At 2 they are very picky eaters and it is hard to find something they will eat. The apples and bananas is good but I can understand your concern that she isn't eating veggies. I was told to make sure my boys had their vitamins just in case they had an extremly picky day. Also I was told it was ok to keep some pediasure in the house as well for bad days but to still encourage proper eating. I also started hiding veggies by mixing things like squash in the mac and cheese.

My daughter is also a very picky eater. I quit making an issue out of it and gradually she will try the odd new thing here and there. If your daughter likes juice, try the sunripe fruit plus veggies, my daughter loves the strawberry banana and raspberry orange ones and the best part is, there's veggies hidden in there that that can't even taste! My dr told me that as long as she's growing (she is, like a weed) and she's healthy (disgustingly healthy) that there is no cause for concern.
