Healthy Lunch Ideas for a Toddler?

Lunch ideas for my toddler?

  • So my daughter will be 1 in just under 2 weeks so I am planning to start introducing lunch. She already eats breakfast, dinner and snacks but we don't do lunch right now. I am looking for some good lunch ideas for her. She is off baby food completely, eats regular table foods and has no allergies to anything (shes fine with eggs and peanut butter and such) I'm not a huge lunch person so the "just give her what you are having" isn't really going to work. I'll probably eat with her once she starts lunch but I just never know what to make. Any ideas would be great!

  • Answer:

My daughter is 23 months, she'll be two Nov. 5th and I fix all sorts of things for her for lunch. One of her favorites is for me to take a soft tortilla shell, warm it in the microwave for around 10 seconds or so ( just to warm and soften it) ,then spread cream cheese on the inside and then I put ham in it and roll it up and cut it into pieces..kind of like pin-wheels if you've ever seen them, but you can fill them with whatever you like. She loves grilled cheese sandwiches cut into triangles, broccoli (steamed), cubed cheeses, fruit cups (homemade), peanut butter and jelly or fruit preserve sandwiches, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, carrots (steamed), homemade french fries or potato wedges. I also sometimes fry ham and put together a ham and cheese sandwich on toasted whole grain bread, she really likes that as well. Cutting up bananas or even peeling pears, apples, peaches, etc and cutting them into pieces and offering yogurt to dip them in makes a nice health side for lunch. If you serve apple slices, you can give her a side of peanut butter to dip in also, my daughter loves that. I usually try to give her something a little more filling and more of a main food to eat like a sandwich, pin-wheels, nuggets, etc. and then give a side of fruit and dip or a veggie (sometimes both). Sometimes I give her a plate with cubed cheeses (different kinds), a cubed meat, such as ham or summer sausage and crackers and let her make her own little cracker sandwiches or she eats them seperately, then I add a little cup of grapes..its simple and she likes it. Hope this helps.
