16yrs old pregnant and addicted to peppermint tea... help?
-
Hi, im 16yrs old and 3months pregnant when I found out I was worried what my parents would say but they were excited and happy to be there for me but that's beside the point.... im here asking for help I have recently become addicted to peppermint tea as I have really bad morning sickness that has put me in hospital 4 times already I tried when I tried it and it got rid of my morning sickness I instantly became addicted. I have been reading up about it and have mixed signals some people are saying its safe and others are saying its not..... my number one prioty is to keep my baby as safe as possible and help it grow...so I was just wondering what your opinions on peppermint tea are? Thanks a load =)

Answer:
I can't tell you much on the safety, for CERTAIN, but from everything that I have learned it doesn't seem to do any harm in pregnancy. Many midwives and doctors do suggest it for nausea. I DO know that peppermint can cause low milk supply AFTER the baby is born but it wont effect anything like that right now. Just stop drinking it a few weeks before baby comes. I also know that the tannin in peppermint tea reduces iron absorption by up to 80%. It is recommended that you drink it between meals (by about two hours, which can be too long to keep morning sickness away) - or up your iron. talk to your doctor. Good luck :-)

Too bad you weren't addicted to birth control.

There's no caffeine because it is just peppermint not real tea as in the plant and nothing in it that would harm the baby. Your fine. And kudos for caring about the health of your baby. Um why did I get a thumbs down? The one thing I say that isn't controversial I get a thumbs down...wtf?

I love peppermint tea. As long as if doesn't have caffeine, your baby is fine.

Well I heard that when you are pregnant, there are certain foods and maybe even drinks you become hooked on. :/ Like a constant craving. . .and that's ok.
As long as it is caffeine free it will be fine. It's even recommended by some physicians.
