What are the chances of having multiples right after a single?
-
My boyfriend and I are going to try right after I have the baby I'm carrying now for another one as soon as it's ok'd by the doctor. I have a condition that could sterilize me later in life but won't have an effect on the children I have now. What are the chances compared to waiting after I have my son for me to have multiples? I would like to know so I can prepare myself. I got pregnant the first time we had ever had sex and here I am almost 4 full months along. My family has a long history of multiples as does his. I'm just wondering whether multiples will be more likely right after I give birth to my son and if so how much more likely.

Answer:
I am the mom to twin and it runs on my moms side of the family. My dr told me you it has to run on the mothers side.It dosen't matter about the dads side. That is not to say that you can't have twins with no history it just gives you more chance. First I am sorry to hear of you condition adn understand the want to have them now but you really should give you body time to recover from the first you could do serious damage if not. Second while I love my kiddos and wouldn't trade them twins are really hard to deal with and very expensive. You chances could be higher your body may decide to drop 2 eggs at one time while recovering it's pretty much 50/50. Please just becareful i adore my babies but have had a hard run with two at once just last month they were both in the hospital with different things. My best thing to say is see how you feel taking care of one and how you and your bf deal then imagine doing that with two at the same time. No one can predict multiples so idf you have a history there is a good chance you could have them. I send my best wishes with you and really hope it goes your way but just remember multiple pregnancies are much riskier as you know so your body would be much better equiped to handle it if you wait till the first is about 1. Good luck to you.

since multiples run on both sides of the family you are more likely to have twins in the future, but it is hard to say exactly when. my grandmother had four singles before she had a set of twins and they ran in her family. who knows. ask God. if you want multiples talk to your doctor about taking meds to help it along.
