Why is Vitamin D significant?

Why is my vitamin D level so low?

  • I'm 28 weeks prego and my doctor told me I'm at a level 17 and they like to see patients at atleast 40. I have been taking 2000 IU of vitamin D3 since my first blood test at 8 weeks but it hasn't come up...someone told me that bottled reverse osmosis water could be robbing me of my vitamin D? is this true? I Also live in AZ the sun is pretty much the hardest thing to avoid lol... Help!

  • Answer:

Whats your calcium intake like? Your body actually needs calcium to absorb the vitamin D, so if your lacking in calcium it could be related to that. When your pregnant you need extra calcium because you baby basically hogs all of it! So try to up your dairy intake as this is the best source of calcium (brocolli and chickpeas etc contain some also) You can by calcium enriched milk with added vitamin D as well.
