Are there any allergies to birth control?

Do you think allergy medicine will affect the birth control Implanon?

• I didn't think anything of it at the time, but I had some allergies in January and took some allergy medicine early January, can't remember what day it was that I took it on but it was like the day after, I think, I was with someone. Then in mid-February, all of a sudden, I started having mood swings and fatigue. These 2 symptoms are still ongoing. I feel tired all the time, and want afternoon naps. I have read from other people that became pregnant on Implanon, pregnancy tests will still come up negative, so I was thinking blood test. I also have got food cravings some, and stomach cramps. A month ago, I had some sharp pains on my side of my stomach that just lasted a couple of seconds. I didn't remember the allergy medicine that I took in early January until I started having these symptoms in mid-February. I feel that going to my healthcare provider, they will only reassure me that it is nothing. But I find it strange that I would be more emotional and more fatigued than usual all of a sudden. And I'm not even stressed or depressed! 15 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details I do see where it is possible that the medicine could have interacted with the birth control making it less effective, however. Anyone on Implanon, doesn't the birth control affect pregnancy tests? Just because I have read from other people that got pregnant on Implanon, their tests came up negative. And so did mine from a few weeks ago. And also, I have never had any symptoms like this while on Implanon. Been on it for over 3 years, got the new insertion in october.

  Hi.. Your fine. Antihistamines (allergy medication), and in particular chlorpheniramine, do not affect the efficacy of oestrogens and progestogens, which are the ingredients of the combined oral contraceptive. Very best of luck.
