HEEEELP! TELLING MY MOM ABOUT GETTING A NOSE JOB- WHEN SHOULD I TELL HER?
-
NOTE: Please don't judge me. Alright I'm going to turn 16 in a few months. I'm a girl. I've always hated my nose. It has a masculine nose hump on it, which is a big turn-off. :/ IT'S THE TRUTH! I am planning to get a NON-SURGICAL 15-minute nose job using the filler, Artefill. So technically, it's not really a nose job. I'm not changing the shape of my nose but I'm just fixing my minor flaw- my nose hump. It costs about $3,000 since I live in NYC. I've been thinking about this for a while now. I feel so pressured and upset because I need to tell someone. I told my friends. They said if I can afford it, go for it! :) I'm sure my dad would approve of it since he also had a nose job & HE IS HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS. :) I'm not sure about my mom. I don't want her to be mad at me. I am 1,000% sure I want a nose job & I'm dying to tell her. I just don't know what her reaction would be. So: Should I tell my mom about my need to get a nose job now (when I'm 16) or in 2 years (when I'm 18)? Should I offer to pay for the nose job? PLEASE HELP!

Answer:
You can't get a nose job at 16... you have to be at least 18 before any plastic surgeon will take on elective / cosmetic surgery. Wait until then... and save up the $ to pay for it too. I mean, $3000 is a boat load a money for someone that just turns 18. fyi: your not done growing yet. Things can and do change over 2 yrs. Maybe for the better.

If this is something you are very serious about doing and you have researched the benefits and complications with the procedure then it sounds like a mature rational decision... And as a mature person you should able to stand behind these choices you make and confront your mother with this now... It may be something she is willing to help you with now if she understands and accepts your reasons for it and you would not have to wait until you are 18... If she doesn't agree with your choice you just calmly explain to her that although you respect and value her opinion this is something you have chosen to do for you and when you are 18 you will not be asking for her permission but you would seriously like her support... If teenager come to their parents with ration mature points the parents are much more likely to listen to their child and respect and value their opinions. @wildgrl... with parental permission you do not have to be 18... and she said she was palnning on doing this at 18 already.

to the person who said you can't get elective surgery until you're 18, that isn't true. At least not in New York. A friend of mine who is also a 16 year old girl got an elective nose job because she thought her nose was too big. It was more major of a surgery than what you want, and she has no regrets at all. She went to a good doctor in NYC and it was around 13,000 and he was the top plastic surgeon around. I really would make sure you're going to a good doctor, and wait a year or two to see if you still think you want it. But whatever makes you happy at the end of the day, I say why not. You need a parents signature for the surgery at an age younger than 18, though.

at 16 you're still growing and your face is still maturing so there is no point doing anything yet, you would have to wait until you were at least 18. I would talk to her about it now and tell her how unhappy you are with your nose, like most mothers she'll probably say you are beautiful the way you are, but if you feel like your nose is that much of an issue for you and you can afford to pay for the filler then I would say go for it too.. how long does the filler last for?

How long has this product been around? I wouldn't be sticking anything in my body to "fix" anything unless there is about 20 years of data to tell me that it is safe. I would be upset if my daughter "fixed" a nose that has nothing wrong with it. I would be upset that my daughter thought that any normal nose variance was a "turn off." At 16, I would never sign for this procedure. I would have you wait until 18, and then use the two years to point out how noses are all different sizes and how most of us are doing just fine even though we aren't super models. I am sorry that you are drinking the koolaid and believing that there is some ideal that you have to live up to. Few people are universally attractive (even supermodels get the air brush treatment in their photos) and I am sorry that the fantasy portrayed out there has worked to make you think that your reality is somehow less than.
