Why are my parents so overprotective?

  • I'm not even allowed to walk up the street without them having to come with me. There's an oval about 100m up the road--they don't let me practise rollerskating there alone. I don't even have a social life because they don't let me go anywhere. I'll say, "Can I go to the mall by bus?" and they'll straight up say "No" unless I have ABSOLUTELY everything planned out, what exact time, I need to have my cellphone with me AT ALL TIMES, the minute I get there, I NEED to call them otherwise they'll get super worried and then ground me if I didn't call. I can't do anything with my friends because my parents never let me--they don't even have a good reason!! They don't let me go to the goddamn movies without notifying them a week before or something. No friend of mine is EVER welcome in my house unless I tell my parents like a week earlier and tell them what exact time, what food we're going to eat, how my friend is going home and what EXACT TIME..... I'm a 15 year old girl.

    There old fashion type? Been through a lot? Depending on your neighboorhood too? You should talk with them and tell them what you want compramise. Its just hard for them to let you go your growing up

Sounds like they're in a cult and have been brainwashed. Either that or OCD which means it's pretty much untreatable and might well be too hard to manage, and the fact that you're so precious to them would make it nearly impossible. I guess all you can do is make the most of it, bask in their love and move out as soon as you can. And when you do ring them regularly to let them know you're OK.

are you their first/only child? because they might just be a bit nerves. they might of had a bad experience themselves with their parents. or they might not trust your area.. sit down and talk with them, harder said than done, but try it.
