Well, it is called experience. I wanted alot of things when I was younger that my parents would not give me. I could work for them, or do without. Now, I see their wisdom. I choose to follow a off-beat career path(no college), my parents supported me, to a certain degree. I had to keep my grades up. I had to work for my job training(as opposed to them paying for it) . It defiantly was a good choice on their part. I learned my job inside and out, good and bad. I learned to stick with it. And I developed alot of pride in the fact that I could do it. But, at the time, I resented the fact that my daddy didn't write a check for me. My parents also HATED the guy I dated in high school. They said their peace and left it alone, but I always knew they did not like him. Long story short, he is now my EX-husband. BUT, parents are people. They make mistakes. No body is perfect. If you really feel like what you want is best, then talk to them. Find out their reasons, and tell them yours. If you want them to treat you like an adult, act like it, REALLY think through what they say to you. No whining or demanding, just talk. If their answer is still no, let it drop. If you still want it in a month, remind them that you still want it, nicely. They may be waiting to see how long your interest will hold.

I guess it depends on what you want to do. If you want to fill your face with piercings then your parents know best. They know that is a decision that takes maturity, therefore you have to wait until your old enough. That works with just about everything. Listen to them and why they make their decisions and make sure they listen to you and yours. That way you can go over the pros and cons of everything before anyone decides whats best. All they want to do is protect you. You'll still be their baby when your married with your own family

well i guess that all depends on the age of the child... a young child may "think" he/she knows whats best but really doesn't....an older child like a teen may actually know whats best for them, thats where being close to your child and being able to talk about things come in place, this way the child and parent can come to decision on what the child wants to do.

although I'm not completely sure I get your question, as a new mom myself (and still young) I think that your parents feel that you don't know what's best for you right now. You may think you do (like when I was engaged to a TOTAL loser at 17 and FOR REAL knew what I was doing) but as much as you feel you know at your age, there is so much more. Sure, maybe your parents are totally wrong on this one and really don't know what they're talking about, but at least know they're doing the best they can and try to appreciate having parents that actrually care about you and your well-being. It's a lot better than the alternatives!! And just so you know, I even had a 12 oclock curfew until I graduated! Sucked big-time, that's for sure, but it DID keep me out of a lot of trouble!
