Why exactly are college books so expensive?

Why do some parents give their college daughters things like coloring books, or kiddy movies? wtf?

    I had no idea that this was common practice But when i turned 18 I had a guy friend who gave me a coloring book for my birthday. I loved it and coloured it all in... Time that I probably should of spent studying, but nonetheless I appreciated the gift. When I was a young adult, horror movies were quite a popular activity during weekday nights, but me and my girlfriends would get so scared watching thm we would watch kids shows afterwards just some would be able to sleep. I still enjoy shows like Arthur, rug rats, captain planet ect so would appreciate if someone gave me DVDs like that. That's my explanation behind it, but I should stress I was under no impression whatsoever that my behaviour was actually normal.

well..how old are you? In college I loved to color. It was (and still is ) a simple, childish way to relax. Im 42 now and still like the disney princess coloring books. lol My "wish" for my 20th birthday? The movie "bambi". Always my favorite. Again, good movie, relaxing, collectible. I guess it depends on the person but Im grown, have a household, 4 kids but I still enjoy being a kid sometimes and there isnt anything wrong with it.

Because it reminds us of childhood, and it's fun! I'm in university, and I love having colouring books and stuff. The people on my floor love to come in and colour... it's just an easy way to relieve stress :P

Who does this? I've never heard of it. Maybe you hang out with weird people. When I graduated from college, my parents flew out from the East Coast to surprise me and they gave me $500.
