What to do with old pills?

What do I do about my girlfriend's 16 year old daughter stealing my pills?

  • I live with them. I have a prescription for Hydrocodone and Xanax. She steals them. We all know. We've had it out. She's been punished, but she won't stop, and she gets them from other people too? Her mom is the same way but I don't want her to have to be like that. When I asked her why she took them she was very honest and she told me that she liked the way they made her feel. I explained to her how dangerous and addictive it was and she said that her mom did it and that she was still alive. I told her I wanted to trust her and told her that I didn't want to see any more pills missing and she told me that I might want to find a new hiding place for the bottle. What can I do?

    She's addicted or just doesn't give a crap.Either get her some help or buy a safe. Next will be more then just the pills.

Your girlfriend is a horrid example for her daughter, isn't she? it seems to me that when a person abuses drugs repeatedly, it can be a great way to escape from their reality, a way to self-medicate. People who do this often always have emotional problems and need some individual help/counseling to learn other ways to cope with life. yes some of us like to "party" and feel good, others have a tendency toward addiction or self-medicating. get a lock box for the pills, let her mother know she's a terrible example and perhaps she could consider straightening out her act and get help, and then get help for the daughter.

I'd buy a lock box to store them in, maybe with a combination lock that she doesn't know the code to? I agree it's not a good thing that she is stealing them and I can see it being a problem if she ever got into legal problems and admitted that you were aware that she took your pills. My solution isn't going to stop her from taking other peoples but at least yours won't contribute to an overdose, you can only do so much here.

lock em up, just like they do in the drug stores. She can't steal what she can't find. Try a finger print safe. let me let you in on a little secret, glove compartments can be unlocked with your car key or a bobby pin. get a REAL safe, and the next time, call the police. Its illegal to steal prescription drugs. If girlfriend doens't like it, who cares? she's trash.

You need to be honest with your girlfriend and let her know you don't want to date an addict/junkie. That's something that needs to be worked out within your relationship first. In the meantime you need to find creative places to hide your pills, inside a sock, the back of a shelf in your closet, etc. and make sure that nobody sees where you go when it's time for another dose or they will be looking there as soon as you turn your back. Nip it now or you will regret it later. Keep an eye on the daughter and keep her focused. You can also threaten to turn her (or both of them) in to the police for theft or send them to rehab, give an ultimatum. You don't want to live that way and you don't want them to go down that path.
