Can anyone recommend some good children's books on WWII? Could anyone recommend some good books on World War II, for children in grades about 4-7? I'm home schooled and every year after Christmas break I do a series of book reports on a certain subject. I was doing them on a series of children's sci-fi books, but my mom feels that they're "unhealthy" for me. So I'm doing them on children's books about WWII. I want to have at least a dozen books. Here are the ones I have so far... *Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank *Number the Stars by Lois Lowry *One Eye Laughing, The Other Weeping: The Diary of Julie Weiss(Dear America Series) by Barry Denenberg *Turned Away: The World War II Diary of Deborah Bernstein by Carol Matas *Hiding Edith by Kathy Kaser Anyone know any other good books on World War II aimed at children I could write a book report about?

Answer:
friend or Foe by Micheal Morpurgo. It is fiction but it's based on WWII. It's about two boys who find some Germans in the moor near where they've been evacuated, and because one of the germans save one of the boys lives, they become friends. Blitz. Unfortunately it's one of the 'My Story' books so i can't give you much info on the author, but in the book it is just about one girl in general and her experience through the war. Carrie's War by Nina Bowden. you might've seen the film, it's about a girl (Named Carrie!) who is evacuated to the country. I read the book a while ago and can't remember it very well, but it was good. Once, Then and Now by Morris Gleitzman. A series of books about a jewish boy named Felix who (in Once) runs away from his orphanage in Poland when the germans burn all the books. It's quite sad because in the first book he doesn't really realize why everyone hates him and that there's a war on. He meets a girl named zelda and they end up trying to find somewhere where they can have a family again, both being orphans. And in Now, the main character is felix's granddaughter, who is also named Zelda. It's not about WWII, as it is set in the present day, but it's a good conclusion to the story. Back home by Michelle Magorian. Rusty is sent home from America where she was evacuated when she was little and has to leave behind her adopted family and when she has to settle back home after the war she finds it hard. it's better than it sounds, Honest. It's more about what happened after the war. Goodnight Mister Tom by Michelle Magorian. a boy is evacuated to the country and is taken in my 'Mister Tom' It's not so much about the war, but that's when it's set and i think you could get some decent information out of it. Plus, it was the first book i ever cried over (don't worry, happy ending) Johnney and the bomb by Terry Pratchett. A boy who find a magic tesco trolley that lets him and his friends time travel. It's really funny and they end up messing everything up. that's all, sorry it's so long and rambly, but i hope i helped!
