What should I have for lunch at home?

Parents: What do you think about the preschooler whose home brought lunch was replaced with a school lunch?

  • on the grounds that the home brought lunch was not healthy enough? http://www.foxnews.com/us/2012/02/14/preschoolers-homemade-lunch-replaced-with-nuggets/ The homemade lunch included a turkey-and-cheese sandwich, a banana, some chips and an apple juice and was replaced with a school lunch of chicken nuggets, which the parent had to also pay for. If this was you, what would be your reaction?

  • Answer:

Absolutely ridiculous and asinine. Schools should have no right to dictate what parents feed their own kids. Who really cares if a kid has one "unhealthy" thing in their lunch like potato chips? If their parents want to send them a treat every now and then, that is their business. Everything else in the lunch was healthy. I know there are some parents out there who feed their kids bad diets and will often send them to school with crappy lunches, but really, how can the school fix that just by taking the lunch away? It's not like they're going to save the kid's life and make him lose a bunch of weight, their parents will still be able to feed them what they want at any other time. It's the parents' responsibility to teach their kids good eating habits, not the school's. And again, it's even more stupid to take away the kid's lunch when the majority of it is healthy. And really, most schools have no room to talk, because the stuff they serve in the cafeteria is not any healthier than what most kids would have in their packed lunches. This case is a great example- I mean seriously, they took away her turkey sandwich and fruit and gave her chicken nuggets? Yeah, that's sooo much healthier. If they're really so hell-bent on saving the world and eliminating childhood obesity, they might as well start with their own food that they serve and make it healthier. Also, some people are allergic to milk and dairy products, so how can they possibly require all kids to have milk in their lunches??

I'd be mad and I'd pull my child out of that school, since when are chicken nuggets healthier than a sandwich and fruit?

I'd be raising hell with everyone and their mother. Who in their right mind can deem chicken nuggets healthier than a turkey and cheese sandwich? Are you f*cking kidding me? I wouldn't of paid for the chicken nuggets. They would've been lucky I didn't shove those chicken nuggets where the sun don't shine. It'll be a cold day in hell when some moron with the brain the size of a grape and the common sense God gave cheese tells me what my kid can and can't eat. Good God... I hope those parents take their child out of that crap school and enroll her somewhere where the faculty actually *has* the common sense to know what is and isn't healthy.

I think that's a complete joke... the lunch from home is 100x healthier than nuggets and fries and whatever else the school served. I would be furious and removing my child from that school.

STUPID. I work at a school and there are kids there who take junk food for lunch. They take things that are not healthy: bread, chocolate, cookies, etc. And nobody says anything..Crazy.

Guildlines say there must be: milk, fruit, veggies, whole grain, and meat in order to be a good lunch. There was chips which is a no no, plus no milk or veggies. So that's why is was sent back. Personally this is why I think health nazis need to back off sometimes. This lunch is perfect...in fact both are. See health nazis? This is what happens when you make others follow your lead? Happy?
