Parents: What rules and restrictions do you have on your teens?

OK, here goes... My son, Hathaway, is 15 1/2, and has a Virgin Mobile/Kyocera K-10 Royale(now out of production), with NO camera(he hates those cellphones that have built-in cameras!)...the only texts he gets/receives are from his sister or me...or from Virgin Mobile...he's still trying to learn the concept of texting(and I'm afraid to teach him!)... As for MP3/iPod, sorry, we don't have a computer of any kind(we only use the ones at the libraries in our county), hence we DON'T have/want/need an iPod/MP3 player... MY daughter, Michaela(named after her aunt) is almost 14, and has a Virgin Mobile Kyocera Oystr cellphone, but wants to trade up to a Marbl(soon out of production)... I want both of them to teach me how to use an iPod if we ever get one in the future, and ONLY if we get an Apple iMac computer... They'd rather listen to the radio, and play their CD's on their old Walkman CD player(and I've heard that even ALL CD players are being discontinued as of next year!)... Trust me, I'm a better parent than most of those snobby ones who'd rather cave in to their "tween" daughter's obsession with "Hannah BUTT-ana" and those LOSER Jona$es!...and they want to wait till they graduate high school before they get their first cars...

my kids have no Ipod, no cell, no tv in teir rooms They have a computer in the living room where we all can see what's going on.

Here are my answers: How old? 18 Cell Phone: Do they have one? yes, we moved and didn't get a house phone so my mom bought one for me since she already had one. What kind is it? LG something or another. I had the same one from 15-18 and it broke and my bro gave me his as a replacement until I can buy a new one. It's not fancy or anything. Do they have texting? Yes How much texting do they have? we have unlimited b/c my older sister loved to text and asked my mom for it. we all text now. Do you have time restrictions on their phone? I've never had them but I always avoided calling people during the week before 9 Do you ever randomly read through the text message? My mom never has that I know of but I would be upset if she did read through them without talking to me. We have a good relationship and I've let her read texts from my friends before. I just wouldn't like her snooping. Ever demand your teen had over their phone so you could read the text messages? My mom never has. She trusts me. MP3 Player: Do they have an iPod? I have an mp3 Which iPod? zen stone. I bought it myself when I was 17 I think. It was only 30 dollars or so Would you let them ever have an iPod touch(has internet)? If I paid for it she wouldn't care but I have a laptop for college and dont see the sense in getting an ipod touch Do you look to see what songs they have? My mom wouldn't even know how to work it. We listen to the same music anyway Have you ever made them delete a song or songs off their iPod? My mom never has. Do you have time restrictions on their iPod? No. It's music, it's no big deal. I usually go to bed before my mom anyway. lol. She gets up later than I do.

How much texting do they have? We all have unlimited. Especially my dad, I swear he text's more than me, lol! Do you have time restrictions on their phone? Um not really. Just don't waste all your minutes, which I never do. Do you ever randomly read through the text message? My mom would never do that. Unless she had supsicions of me doing something illegal like drugs or thought I was deeply in trouble, she would never do something to break my trust like that. She trusts me, I trust her but that's because I talk to her. Anything I text my friends about or things my mom already knows or she'll soon know. Our communication system is great. Ever demand your teen had over their phone so you could read the text messages? No. Sometimes she'll just take it, but it's never to make me mad or because she wanted to snoop. She just wants to read it for craps and giggles, especially the little Forwards I get. MP3 Player: Do they have an iPod? Yes I do. Which iPod? 120 GB iPod. I think it's the classic. Would you let them ever have an iPod touch(has internet)? She would, but I don't want one. I just don't like iPods or phones for that matter that has just a touch screen. The screen might get cracked or it would get all smudged up from my fingers or people's nasty fingers. Plus, it doesn't hold enough songs for me. I got the 120 GB for a reason - ton's of storage. Do you look to see what songs they have? I show her. But she'll look. Sometimes she'll look to see if I got new songs in music genres that we both share interests in like Trance/Techno - she usually wants to have a listen to see if she'd want the song for herself. Also Coldplay - she's always looking to see if I got more Coldplay, they're her favorite band. Have you ever made them delete a song or songs off their iPod? Nope. Do you have time restrictions on their iPod? No. I fall asleep listening to my iPod it's the ONLY way I can go to sleep. I don't sleep with the TV on (I hate the flashing light) but I hate sleeping in the dead silent - so I solve that issue with turning my iPod on shuffle and fall asleep listening to it.
