How much to charge for part time child care?

Do you have your child in a day care that does not do potty training? If so then do you think that it makes ge?

  • If so then do you think that it makes getting a child potty trained more difficult? My kids got potty trained many years ago but I did have a daycare that didn't do potty training. When my older son was 3 he started preschool in the mornings and still was in daycare in the afternoon. The preschool and I worked on his potty training. The afternoon day care provider wasn't involved in it but it worked out anyway. He still used the toilet at her house. It didn't work out that smoothly with my second son though. He would do great at home and at preschool. Then at his afternoon daycare he would just pee his pants. His attitude seem to be that if she don't care then I don't care. Needless to say the daycare provider changed her mind and helped out. He was already 3. I don't think she wanted to clean up after him anymore. I minimized her involvement by telling her to just tell him to go potty when he arrived at her house in the afternoon. Don't ask him because that implies that he has a choice. She would tell him again a couple of hours later before I picked him up. He was finally potty trained. I also know of a day care provider who is in charge of 2 year olds at a day care center. They are all in diapers and she doesn't have the time to potty train them. They'll just need to learn be potty training at home. I know this is a controversial topic but I believe that toilet training is a 24 hour job and not all kids will consistently use the toilet if they are only being taught part time. The whole "potty training should only be taught at home" only works for some kids. I also believe that this is at least part of the reason that kids take longer to potty train these days. The average age for toilet training in America is now 3. It was 2 1/2 in the 1990s.

Did you watch the Dateline show the other night on day care? Most 'teachers' are nothing more than someone with a high school diploma and maybe some extra training, and need a job and they 'love kids'. Add to the fact they make about the same money as someone working at McDonald's. In fact, you are better chance for job advancement / vacations / benefits at the McDonald's. That Toddler Teacher in our state would be caring for 8 two years olds all by herself. Ho would YOU handle eight two year olds for hours on end? I always found it interesting, some mom gives birth to a half dozen babies and an army of volunteers comes to help feed and change babies. Yet, all that mom needs to do is drop five of those babies off at a day care center at age 6 weeks and ONE lady will care for all those babies (feeding, diapering, cuddling, cleaning up spit up, keeping room clean, and so on).

daycare owners are free to choose what age group(s) to care for. avoid any that don't allow toddlers & preschoolers since they are all potty training at some point.
