Does IHOP Give Free Meals On Your Birthday?

What would you give your child as a treat to drink if...?

  • They had only ever had breast milk and water to drink, and you didn't want to give them juice or milk. My daughter is 22 months old and breastfeeds 6 times a day and then has water with her meals. I was thinking of giving her something else to drink as a treat (like maybe for her 2nd birthday and then ever once in awhile after that), but not sure what. I don't want to give her milk as she doesn't need it since she gets plenty of breast milk, and i don't want to give her juice until she is old enough to ask for it. I also don't want to give her soda or kool aid or anything else like that. Is there anything else you can think of that might be a good treat drink? Thanks!!!

You can do flavored waters, like adding lemon juice or lime to juice to the water (just a bit to add flavor). Are you thinking juice like the bottled stuff? or the juice you would get from squeezing a fresh orange? This is what I am talking about. Just enough juice to give some flavor to the water, no sugar needed. We make homemade juice, using both vegetables and fruits mixed. and even add yogurt to make a smoothie shake (our lil guy loves banana/strawberry/yogurt).

There's nothing wrong with 100% juice. Just limit it to 4oz per day. This is kind of a weird question.

Children who are taught the sign for it can ask for juice before they are even 12 months of age. I really think your best bet would be a no-sugar added fruit juice diluted up to 50% with water. If you're looking for a drink that isn't a sugary artificial substance like kool-aid or soft drinks you're pretty much limited to juice or milk. I guess you could try soy or almond based drinks (soy milk, almond milk, etc), but if you look at the ingredients on most of them I think you'll find they have just as much sugar in them as fruit juices, if not more.

You didn't really leave much room for options here. I give my daughter iced tea (sweet or unsweet, she'll drink either). Maybe that, or juice diluted with water.
