Age: 35 to 45 To me a child is spoiled when they are completely unruly and do not listen to their parents. I was spoiled until age 11 when my Mom died. So Yes No I do not resent others for being spoiled And yes after my Mom died, my Father was very hard on me but it has turned out to be a benefit some ways and a hindrance in others. My Father set T. V. limits, only two hours a week with preapproved programs. I also was only allowed 3 phone calls 10 minutes each a day. I was not allowed to go on a date more than once a week and could not date a boy my Father hadn't met or didn't approve of. I was not allowed to spend the night with a girl friend unless my Father spoke to one of their parents. I had an 11:00 curfew on weekends and 10:00 curfew on week nights but rarely ever went out on week nights Was not given excessive amounts of anything, even though we could afford it, I was not allowed to wear stylish clothes. I only got money for lunch and school things, nothing else. I was not allowed to get a job. I was not allowed to drive. I was a step parent with full custody and raised the children full time. No, I didn't spoil my children, I was too much like my Dad. The negative effects of this are that they haven't contacted me in about 8 years.

BUT I shop for bargins, clearances, consignment stores, yard sales. Yo just wouldn't think that seeing everything. But most stuff is bought for pennies compared to how my parents spent $$$. Being spoiled means being given everything without having to know what it means to earn it. Was never spoiled as a child, because there were to many kids in the family. I don't resent those that were spoiled, because I've seen how they grew up, and what they became as adults. I know someone in his 30's who is still being supported by his father, and it's done nothing for him other than made him dependant on his father's money. I'm glad I wasn't spoiled. It made me a better person and to give to others. Never watched much tv as a kid, mostly read books. Also did extracurricular activities like gymnastics and swimming. Had a curfew, even up to the age of 18. Had hand me downs, until I was 16, got a job and began buying my own things. Had to earn an allowance. If I did whatever I wanted, my parents would have shown me the door. I am now a parent of soon to be three. Evryone thinks I spoil my kids because I spend so much time with them. But I don't think taking them to the zoo, or to the park to do things is spoiling my kids. I probably do go overboard on toys, but they get recycled for all the kids. My oldest is pretty giving in ways that amaze me for a three year old. She likes to share her toys with other children, and she's very loving with her 18 month old sister. There are times when we go to the zoo, and when there are children there who want to feed the giraffes, but don't have the money, she'll actually offer her allowance so they can feed them. I must be doing something right..lol..

26-34 US Parents spoil by giving children too much material things and by not disciplining when needed. Spolied children do not respect people or property I was not spoiled I am glad I wasn't spoiled I did benefit from not being spoiled I am a parent I do not spoil my children, I teach them to be respectful of others, themselves, and property. I teach them to work for what they get or appreciate gifts (the thought not the product).
