Long but still need help, mediation question ?? in Australia?
-
Hi, i have a 2.5year old daughter whose father is absent from her life, due to moving interstate for a year a few weeks before she was born and not being an active father role or paying child support, so to me he is lacking in some responsibility, now about a year ago when he finally rang to ask about her i allowed him to come see her once a week on sundays for her to get to know him but it worked for four weeks until he decided he no longer watned to cos thats his daughter and he should be able to take her blah blah blah , but she doesnt know him so i wasnt going to just hand her to him, In May This year I applied for our first session of Mediation to sort out a supervised plan for him to see her on a three day a week basis but he stormed out cos he didnt get his own way and the mediator was really hard on him, after 20mins, so i travelled two hours for nothing prettymuch, In early November this year he rings me wanting to try again so i said yes ok but itl have to be in late november as i was due to go in for my lapband surgery on the 17th of NOvember and had appointments all the way up until then, so the first date was settled for the 30th of November but as i was still healing i couldnt sit down straight so the public bus system was out of the question so i cancelled and the mediator was fine with it as it is classed as major surgery, well we arranged for the 21st of December but being a single mum I cannot afford this before xmas so had to cancel, Will this go against me ?? My bf said no cos its not a court procedeing its only mediation and i didnt even have to agree in going in the first place seeing as though iv given him chance after chance at being a real father, . so does anyone know if in Australia if cancellign mediation appointments can go against me, Iv told the mediator that ill make a new time in the new year, I dont want anyone saying im keepign my daughter from her dad when infact im the one in the last two and half years that has pushed him to be a dad and he keeps backing away but of course he blames me .. can anyone help thanks, 26 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. Additional Details just to teh first person, i need more info, We havent gone to court so it hasnt been advised by the courts iv done it off myown back, also yeah i wont let him take her unless their is a consent order signed byt eh judge and him and me saying i hold custody.. thanks

Answer:
I live in Melbourne. Sorry he sounds like a loser, and a very selfish man. I think next time your in mediation you should request he wait until she's older, and no cancelling coz you cant afford it wont matter. You can only do what you can, and you should make him pay for the mediation if he wants to see the child. Let him take you to court, and stop mediation, let a judge decide what to do, they may order you back to mediation. Dont make to much of an effort hes not worth it and he didn't earn it.
