Babysitting HELP?!?

Babysitting Help? Everything about babysitting?

  • Getting a summer job and i am too young too "fully" work any where. I am 15 years old with a workers permit and i need to know everything about babysitting. I have had a lot of experience with babysitting from obviously babysitting (a lot of my moms friends i am familiar and ive known, though i was volun-chosen) a wide variety of ages but i have 5 siblings. I just need to know some things. Here are some questions since i will be babysitting peoples children i do not know: - What are the parents looking for? -- How should i dress? -- Do i seem to young? - How much should i charge? -- Is 7 dollars an hour too much? -- Should i charge extra per kid? -- Should i charge extra if i watch them after midnight? -- Should i charge extra for the weekends? -- Should i charge extra for infants and special needs? - Whats everything i need to ask the parents about the children ? Ex: Privileges, bedtime, bath time, timeout etc. -Should i bring entertainment with me for them like colors and coloring books, Disney movies, snacks? Anything else that you can think of that would help would be great thanks!

Parents are looking for someone who is responsible; will show up on time, every time and keep their kids safe. If the kids like you, that's awesome. You should dress in comfortable clothes for chasing kids in, with no rude words or inappropriate drawings on them, and school dress code appropriate (no mini skirts or anything, but that wouldn't be good to run in anyway). You seem young because you don't capitalize 'I', but 15 is an okay age. Our youngest sitters were always 16, but I know people who've hired 11 year olds. The going rate here is $5/hour for one child. Rates vary place to place. Yes you should change your rate for more children. After midnight, no. Weekends, absolutely not. Infants and special needs, yes, but depending on the special needs. We pay our sitter right now $20/hour for one severely autistic child. But we're not talking Asperger's Syndrome here- if we were, I'd probably pay half of that. Ask about allergies and medical issues. Ask if there is an emergency person near by you could phone if you suddenly became deathly ill or something. Ask about the routine you should be following (including bedtime). Bring entertainment if you want, but not food. Parents will provide their own food that their child is definitely allowed to eat. You don't know what they are allowed to eat and when, so just leave that. I have always required a criminal record check and good references. A red cross babysitting course/ CPR/ first aid is a bonus. You should get those things for sure.

You know that you don't have to have a workers permit to babysit. I started at 12 and took a babysitting course so I would know all of this stuff and CPR/Heimlich.

- Caring for siblings is different to caring for other peoples children, there are different boundrys. - The parents are looking for a mature, reliable person who can provide support and care for their child for a reasonable cost. - For the interview a shirt/formal trousers combo. When you come to work you have to dress appropriately. So no hot pants or dresses etc.Wear leggings and a long top (covers your butt) or jeans. - Well I wouldnt have a child watching my children, so for me you are too young. But others may not mind. - As you are unqualified, made no mention of a CRB check or any first aid (paediatric first aid) qualifications, you could get £5 an hour max. - Dont charge extra if its only one extra kid, you can charge a pound or two more if there is more than 2 or 3. - No, hourly rate is your hourly rate. Doesnt change at night. - No....you are a babysitter, you are supposed to expect to work weekends and evenings...You cant charge more for that. - Charge more for special needs?! If you said to me that because my child was special needs you will charge more, I would throw you out of my house before you even finished your sentence. That is beyond rude.
