What kind of camcorder should I buy?

What kind of camcorder did you buy to record all those beautiful baby smiles? DVD or those little dv tapes?

  • I have a 8 week old baby who is starting to babble its soooo cute. I want to buy a camcorder budget is no more then $400 but I seen that the ones with those little tapes are a LOT cheaper. Are they sufficient? How do you transfer them onto a dvd or to the computer. Any advice will be helpful thanks!

    The best are the ones with the hard drive We looked into the ones with the mini DVD's but they told us they can only hold 30 minutes of recording each! So we spent more and got the one with the hard drive it was about $700 on sale at Best Buy (Sony Handicam), I know this is more than your budget but wanted to tell you anyway.

We have a JVC Everio hard drive camcorder (doesn't take tapes or DVDs). I think that they cost more than your budget though. But I think that if you go with one that takes tapes you can buy a DVD recorder and hook it up to it to record your movies onto DVD.

My mom lent me her camcorder to record my son (don't remember which brand or anything, though), and by the time I got it ready, he would stop doing whatever he was doing. I'm more of a photo person and have a Canon Powershot SD600. I love it! I can take countless pictures and record bits of videos. It works for me. Every once in a while I download the pics and videos onto my computer and share them with loved ones. It also came with the cable thingy to show a slideshow and/or videos on your TV. Very cool. If you really want to capture your baby on video, though, I suggest going to someplace like Best Buy and tell them what you are looking for and ask any questions that you nay have.
