When is it safe to use front baby carrier?

  • Hi! I have the Infinity Carrier by Infanino. It can be used for a newborn when they don't hold their head up if he faces towards you. For older babies it can be used the other way around - so baby can face the world. In manual it says: "Baby must face towards you until he/she can hold the head upright to avoid possible neck injury.". So I am wondering - at what age an average baby holds head upright? My 2,5 m.o. holds his head up very well already during his tummy time. But I am not sure how he will do in the carrier. Is it safe to try? Any suggestions? Did anybody use a similar carrier?

    As a general rule it's not before 4 months of age. I wouldn't though as there have been recent studies linking the over stimulation of front facing babies in carriers with the development of certain disorders. I would also get a different carrier, ALL of the baby deaths associated with infant carriers have happened in Infantino branded carriers as far as I am aware.

http://www.attachedtobaby.com/ We bought our a safe comfy Ergo and a Slingling pouch. This site has top rated safe slings and carriers. I am not a fan of 'big box store' carriers and slings. Most are ill fitting and subject to many recalls. You can try a forward carry, but ......... this type of carrier is bad on babys hip and spine when facing forward. Plus, you will soon have some back strain carrying baby after 4 months. it depends on the baby but my daughter is the same age and i put her in the carrier facing out and she is fine but when i can see she is falling asleep i turn her around to face me just so her head isn't hanging down
