How do I find out if I'm eligible for Medicaid?

Health Insurance For Children..not Medicaid?

  • my wife and i are expecting our first child in august. my job does not provide health insurance and her job is dropping family insurance coverage so we will not be able to insure our child through them now. i know that regardless of that, that our child will still be covered under her insurance for the first month. but after that we have no idea what to do. i cant find any health insurance companies so far that will insure only a child, that is not medicaid. we live in florida and medicaid is not an option im willing to go with im fine with paying for insurance but i cant find any that will cover an infant under 1 year old. any suggestions?

    Call around abit & rethink refusing Medicaid. Where I am from pretty much EVERY Dr accepts it. I have never heard of one who doesn't. The only limitations I know of that it puts on you is that you must see a physician in your own county. I have no personal experience with it to tell you it's good bad or other BUT the ones I know who are on it haven't had any MORE complaints than those who have other types of insurance. I have had insurance with kids - between Dh's job & mine & the employers changing carriers - in the 5 yrs we've had our boys we have had probably at least 6 carriers (no joke) and those companies aren't without issues. And we had to pay a large portion of the coverage ourselves & then often had large deductibles. At my job the family coverage was over $900 a month for me to pay and my employer paid $500. I had good prescription coverage, but this "awesome" insurance snacked me with a $5,000 deductible for childbirth. Nice. All insurances have issues. At least with medicaid they actually PAY for the health care instead of saddling you with huge deductibles.

No company besides Medicaid will insure just a child. At lease 1 adult must be on the policy. You can buy private insurance for either yourself or your wife and add the baby, but it costs a huge amount. You can bet on at least $400-$600 per month. That's why many people use Medicaid.

Medicade is accepted by all physicians who take medicare. "bad physicians" is not an excuse. You will need to buy a family policy, you can't just cover your child.

So you care more about not taking public money than you do about your child's health? Take the frigging medicaid. You work, you're obviously not a deadbeat, and you don't want your child not to be without coverage if something bad happens. .... You won't get to pick from the best doctors, but you should be able to find one who is good enough. Get a pediatrician, not a family doctor. In my experience children get better doctors under medicaid than adults do. My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when she was 2 years old. It was very sudden. She had to spend 2 days in the hospital and the supplies I need to manage her diabetes are expensive. My daughter has medicaid. I sometimes have to do battle with her doctors, but in the end she always gets what she needs to stay healthy.
