  • Answer:

a Neonatologist is a physician. In high school, you will want to take as much advanced math and science as possible and strive for a GPA of 3.7 or above. In college, again, study math and sciences. You don't need to be a pre-med major. Many physicians were Biology majors. You don't need to go to a 'big name' school for your undergraduate degree. Save your money and try a state university in your hometown state. After college is medical school - another 4 years. After that you will do a pediatric residency followed by Neonatology fellowship. It's a LOT of time in school. Neonatologists care for the sickest of babies, do procedures, insert life-saving tubes and lines. It is a rewarding job in that they save the lives of infants however...it is also a stressful job as neonatologists frequently see infants die.
