Clogged Tear Duct. Personal experiences.?
-
My 9 month old has a clogged tear duct. We are scheduled to meet with an ophthalmologist to have this fixed... please don't suggest we "talk to the doctor" We've already tried all the home remedies...I am looking for personal experience preferably from some one that has had this procedure done with their child. His left eye gets infection after infection which we have eye drops for. His right eye on the other hand does not produce tears... yet there is never an infection. A. If your child had this procedure done how quickly did you see a change? B. The lack of tears in the right eye... although there is no infection could this possible be from a clogged tear duct too? Any personal experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! =)

Answer:
My daughter had a clogged tear duct from birth till 11m. We were given Chlorophenicol 0.5% to put in her eye x3 per day. We cleaned her eye with cooled boiled water with a TINY dash of salt it - absolute minimal amount. We massaged the side of her nose to try to loosen it up. Her eye would, at times, be stuck shut, have green discharge and get quite read around the eye lid. We never had the procedure. We were told we wouldnt even be considered for it till it had been a problem for 12m, as in most cases, it clears itself in babys. Luckily for us it did. And your LO's might just clear itself before the procedure too.

My son had this when he was first born and he DID NOT have a procedure to fix the problem, it just went away with saline solution ....however a family friend of ours daughter had the same problem, and had the probing procedure done (there are several different procedures that you can choose from) the surgery was very successfully and she is doing fine now. You baby most definitely does not have this but one more thing to point out is maybe your baby may not have large enough tear ducts. A girl I went to school with was born with no tear ducts, when she was a baby they thought she had blocked tear ducts but it turned out that she didn't have any at all (or they were very immature and didn't develop properly) anyway she could just never cry real tears and always had eye drops. Anyway good luck with it, I hope your baby's eyes get better soon.

My son had a clogged tear duct.. he woke up every morning with his eye glued together practically.. my husband is a doctor and he just had me massage it every day.. Around 8 weeks old I couldn't take it anymore I felt so bad for him so I really applied a lot of pressure to the inside of his eye and just kept pushing out... and finally it was a pop, like a pimple, (yes, gross I know) , but then seriously about a teaspoon of crap came out and he was fine after that.. .I don't know how it happened or what.. My son was also scheduled for the procedure.. Sorry I can't tell you about the procedure but just wanted to share our story for some reason.. Best wishes
