How much schooling is needed to become a Lactation Consultant?

  • I am hoping there is an actual Lactation Consultant out there that can answer this for me. I have been trying to research is but it seems that every site I go to says something different. I am very interested in this after having a great experience breastfeeeding my son.

Go to the IBLCE website and follow the links for that information. I have been IBCLC since 1989, have worked in a corporation, doctor's office, private practice and now in a hospital and I am not an RN or midwife and never will be. I have been a La Leche League leader for almost 29 years, but that is a volunteer position. Sorry that I can't be more specific, but the requirements have changed in the last year.

What Ellen said. Go here >>>>> http://iblce.org/ There are a few pathways to completing these creditentials. Good luck!!
