Please help... need nursery ideas?

1. I'm not a mum myself, but I do have three little brothers. I only remember what they did with my youngest brother, and that was a sort of pirate theme. They painted the walls blue and the curtains and bedspread had cartoon-like pirates and ships on them, it was very cute. He also had a fish-themed mobile and stars painted on the ceiling. It wasn't over the top, though. 2. The train theme is adorable, but I quite like the idea of a forest theme. My favourite would have to be the ocean theme, though. To be honest, I don't think that the lithograph needs to match the room. If you're concerned about it, it could always go on a plain blue (or whichever colour) wall. I really like the Humpty Dumpty ones :) they remind me of my nursery school, which was called Humpty Dumpty Nursery. We had a massive Humpty Dumpty in the playground. It was amazing. It's so fun to say, as well. --- I really love the idea of an old-fashioned sort of nursery. I absolutely love hand-knitted blankets, they're just so adorable and precious. My Grandma knitted me one when I was a babe, and I still have it now. I feel favoured, because only myself and my older cousin Dan got one. Partly because we were the first Grandson and Grandaughter, but partly because they took so long to do. There are all sorts of things you can do with a nursery. Have you been to the shops and spent time browsing in baby shops? There are usually bits and bobs that you can bring together to make the perfect nursery for your little one. Other theme ideas: Circus. Nursery rhymes. Safari. Noah's Ark. Best wishes!

We didn't do a theme. I'm not a theme type of person. Also, since you can't have a quilt or a bumper in the crib, there didn't seem to be any point in buying all that matching stuff. I honestly don't know why people are still selling bumpers for cribs. Everything I've read has extolled the dangers of bumpers, and yet there they are in every set. Unbelievable. (Also don't buy a sleep positioner. Those things are made to smother babies. It's ridiculous.) Ethan's first nursery was turqoise with white wainscoting. I made him a turquoise, baby blue, brown, and tan quilt for tummy time and playing on the floor (he later used it as a blanket once he was about two), and he had curtains with a similar color scheme. The things we hung on the wall were a framed ultrasound pic; a bulletin board I made with pictures of all his relatives and our dogs on it; and children's pictures like a Rockwell print with a baseball game, a giraffe drawing from Target, a poster advertisement for a train line from the 1940s, and a March of the Ducklings print we found on Cape Cod. I didn't want his room to have a huge baby-baby feel, more of a childhood wonderment feel. But then again, I'm not a fan of all things baby. His current room (we've moved several times, thanks to the US Navy) is cream colored, but we've kept turquoise touches in his curtains and his big-boy-bed quilt. We have photos and art on all the walls in our house (I hate a big empty wall) and have kept that up in his room, as well. A lot of animal prints, but not baby ones - they're just drawings or photos of interesting animals; the train poster, a mirror over his changing table (that is sooooo important. Babies and toddlers love mirrors, and what better place then the changing pad they'll be on several times a day?); and a few photos of him at his first baseball game, framed with the tickets. I'm an amateur decorator (my house is gorgeous. ;) LOL) and I strongly believe that keeping things too matchy or too themed can leave a room feeling sterile, almost. I'm a big fan of spontaneity in design, so I try not to over think things. I looked at the divadoggies website and fell in love with http://www.divadoggies.com/Site/_A_Boys_Room.html How friggin' cute?! But obviously a little out of most people's budget... I think all of her things are really adorable. Anything with "Hey diddle, diddle" on it gets my vote. Every kid loves that rhyme. I think you should forget the theme, paint some walls, hang up some fun artwork, a mirror, and some creative lighting and you're all set. Good luck!

I am 26 weeks along and after searching and searching for a "theme" resulting in nothing, I have deicided to can the idea and just get pieces I like that will match well. One of the main issues I had was the expense involved in purchasing a crib set for an infant. I had a difficult time getting comfortable with the idea of spending $200+ on a baby's crib. I rarely spend this kind of money on myself. I am having a little girl and found some art with birds and flowers I like. I registered for lilac and pink crib sheets, and a beautiful white quilt/comforter. I hope to accessorize with a fun rug, and curtains. I do like the idea however (if I were having a boy) for a pirate room :) Good luck!

Oh my word I love the forest theme, it makes me want to use it even though I'm having a little girl! I can't though because I am going to have the new baby share a room with her 2 year old sister and her room is already covered in disney princess, what can I say she loves them! So I don't want to co-mingle two different styles so I will have to find a cute bedding set that is similar in color to the pinks purples and whites already in the room. But if the next time around if I have a boy I want that set, it is so CUTE!!! it makes you want to paint a mural on the wall of the forest, good luck either way it will turn out very cute!

Ahhh! It's a boy! Congrats on little Julius/Jeremy/Wesley/Elliot/Henry!! Congrats! My favorites of the cribbing sets is probably the Forest Friends, but maybe that's because my niece has a jungle-themed room. If you wanted to get all technical and think about what the theme would be teaching the kid, I'd rather my boy be an animal lover than an engineer or surfer, but I really doubt that should be a major factor. :D As for the nursery rhyme lithographs, I think doing Baa Baa Black Sheep, Kookaburra, POP! Goes the Weasel, and She'll Be Comin' 'Round the Mountain for the Forest theme is good; Row, Row, Row Your Boat, My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean, It's Raining, It's Pouring, and Rub-a-Dub-Dub work well for the beach theme, and, of course, I've Been Working on the Railroad is perfect for the train theme! If all else fails, use a classic one that adapts to all types of rooms: What Little Boys Are Made of, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Jack and Jill, Humpty Dumpty, etc. I think working with a theme would be more complicated, though. What about doing a mainly old-fashioned, classic nursery, with little touches of a theme? Like, blue bedding, but a few forest stuffed animals, or a picture of the ocean. Something along those lines will make the whole nursery organizing thing less complicated, but it'll spice it up, too. Good luck!

i love all your ideas, but got one better based on your last pic. nursery, you know all the nursery rhymes. my 3 year olds room we just moved to a new house and the kid before her his mom painted all nursety things like the itsy bitsy spider, and stuff and she loved it so its there ( shes in to tinkerbell and princess) my 10 month olds room is all princess, but nursery is so cute for you to do you can find so much stuff on it and make it unique

It turned out adorable and wasn't gaudy or over the top. 2) I like the trains the best, but I like the ocean theme idea better. I would actually suggest going with one of the Wendy Bellissimo beddings as you can easily coordinate the paintings with the theme of the room.
