My Wife wants to take a year out after having our first baby. What work could she do from home to help income?

She earns well, but wants to go back to her job after the baby is about one. Her loss of earnings once the maternity pay stops will see quite a dip in income. What could she do from home to help out?

Answer:
Well, selling on E-Bay sounds good, if you have anything to sell. You say she earns well, but you fail to say in what field. If she is an accountant or something, would there be any possibility of her working a little from home? Some people make money from car boot sales, but you have to have a supply of plenty of saleable goods. What about some on-line secretarial work? Compiling or typing and printing out letters for someone, writing a CV. Could she offer coaching in any subject, or help someone with their literacy? She could work for the help-line of a large company, when she would answer the phone and talk to customers at certain prearranged times. She could also try to sell Betterwear or Kleeneze. She would have to post catalogues through doors in a couple of streets and then call back after a couple of days to collect them and to take the orders. She could try selling books. There are many book companies now, that sell surplus stock through reps, who leave a selection of them in schools and offices every month or so, the staff will buy from this discounted stock. What about dog walking? She could walk a couple of dogs while out walking with the baby in the pram. No stress, just a walk in the fresh air. Would she fancy ironing for a couple of people? I think they pay £20 for a bin liner full, or if there were a lot of shirts, which took longer, she might do it by the number of items. Would she fancy cooking, to supply a local shop or restaurant? Could you offer bed and breakfast on a prearranged basis? Would she fancy doing some child-minding? She could just take a couple of children after school. She would have to meet them from school, give them their tea and provide them with a few activities, like colouring a picture, making a collage, or other craft work. If she took a couple of quiet little girls, it should not be too strenuous. I understand it is well paid and she would have the rest of her day free. I hope I have given you some practical ideas here and that your wife will be able to make some extra money.

I'm a stay at home mom, and I have to say during baby's first year, it was sometimes hard to find the time to clean the house, or do the laundry, or even get a shower. A job from home while being a full time mother won't be easy. Something like data entree from the home computer might be the easiest to manage, or copy editing. Babies sleep a lot, and with some practice, it is possible to breastfeed and do some typing in the same time. Anyways, don't plan on too many hours a week. It is amazing how much time and energy babies demand. And your wife will need some time to just recharge or sleep herself, while baby sleeps, and won't be able to proceed to gainful work each time baby closes the eyes. Also you can cut expenses in other ways. Cloth diapers, even the fancier fitted ones cut your diapering costs easily in half or more, especially if they are line dried. Breastfeeding is much cheaper than formula, and better for baby anyways. Once baby starts on solids, home made baby food is very easy and fast to prepare and very cheap compared to store bought food, even if you'd use only organic ingredients. Used baby clothing in very good condition is available in many second hand stores, and can save you a fair amount there, too. Let me add. Your wife's decision to stay home for a year is a very good one. Children thrive better, if they are around their mothers all day, rather than being forced to form attachments to multiple babysitters and daycare providers.

erm she will be busy enough looking after the baby that is far harder work than any other job what an insensitive man you are and if you cant afford for her to take the time off then you shouldn't be having a baby.

Well you could strap her to a running machine and get her to generate electricity for the national grid- why don't you just let her look after YOUR child, which is a really difficult job especially in the first few months. She's going to be really tired at times and too busy for extra work. Why the hell don't YOU get an extra job instead? Or maybe get used to living on less for a while- and don't forget, you can also make the dinner, do the washing, tidy the house and look after your wife and child WITHOUT making her feel guilty for not earning.

She could sell things on ebay, she could also become a baby sitter and look after some other peoples childrens as well as your own child and that way she gets the best of both worlds.

All work at home opportunities are scams! If she can't get work from home from her current job, then she can't take off. Lots of mom's would love to stay home too and if we could we would, I being one of them! Get a second job. EDIT: WORK AT HOME OPPORTUNITIES ARE SCAMS AND IT IS VERY HARD TO FIND A STAY AT HOME AND DO MEDICAL BILLING ENTRY JOB. MOST DOCTORS WANT EXPERIENCE WHICH MEANS LEAVING THE HOME TO GET IT AND YOU SHOVE THE MONEY OUT FOR THE SOFTWARE WHEN YOU CAN STAY HOME IN LET'S SAY 5 YEARS. I HAVE LOOKED AT WORK AT HOME OPPORTUNITIES FOR 15 YEARS AND YET TO FIND A LEGITIMATE ONE. AVON AND SIMILAR COMPANIES ARE A JOKE. TO MUCH MONEY FOR SUPPLY AND IF YOU SEE A PROFIT IT'S BECAUSE YOU HAVE TO SELL AT LEAST $1,000 EVERY 2 WEEKS. THAT'S VERY HARD FOR A NEW MOM TO SELL THAT MUCH. IT RUNS ON A COMMISSION DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH IS SOLD. THIS IS EXPERIENCE TALKING HERE. I AM IN DEBT BECAUSE I FELL FOR THE SCAMS. IT'S BEST TO GET A PART TIME JOB OR CUT YOUR EXPENSES! GOOD LUCK!

if she is good at searching stuff on computer have her go to chacha.com at the bottom it has a link to be a guide its like kgb she would be answering the questions people send in. pays good. its an actual job with w-2's and all. each job has different pay going fom 7 cents per question to 1cent but you get like 100 questions in an hour or more dpending on the job. and can work when ever you want since its by commission. okay heres a few other things i do. its not alot of money but it is money, i make about 15 dollars a month doing the bare minimum. and all are not scams promise. these are the ones i use there are alot that are scams out there and a lot that are not. you can check for scams at surveypolice.com http://www.neobux.com/?r=kperez0006 all she has to do is go on here click 4 ads at least a day and they are a penny each. the real money is buying referals. you can buy as many as you want and you earn .005 cents each time they click only thing is you may have to weed out the ones that dont click often enough but once you get a good network its worth it. can cash out at 2 dollars inboxdollars.com they send you emails you get paid 2 cents to read them they also have cash surveys that pay anywhere from 50 cents to 5 dollars depending on what it is. and if you buy stuff online you can get rebates through them. only thing is you cant cash out til 30 dollars quickrewards.net also a paid to click and has daily surveys and you can cash out anytime its my favorite. in the past month i have made 10 dollars from here this month and i missed alot of days for clicking and surveys. also has rebates for buying online. she will need a paypal account for any of these. and like i said not a job but is good for a little on the side. oh i forgot one. pineconeresearch.com you will have to google "pine cone research sign up link" its a survey site. its exclusive and only excepts people every so often, they will email you when a survey is available and send you a 3 dollar check in the mail when done takes about 2 weeks they say up to 7 weeks but it has never taken more then 2w for me to receive a check. they do have short surveys that dont pay but help with placing you in other surveys these are only a few min long but they will help in the long run.
