What diet worked for you so you werent ALWAYS hungry?
-
so ive been on weight watchers and nutra system before i got pregnant (a couple of years before) and both worked great! i got down to about 135 by my sr. year in high school. only problem with those diets are that once you get off....your most likely gonna gain the weight back, i did. now im 20, have a 7 month old, and weigh roughly 220 (gross!!!!), i would like to lose about 80lbs by the end of august. i know how to lose weight, but anytime i just try to eat in moderation and cut out sweets, i NEVER full. its hard for me to stick to a diet because im always hungry. what diet worked for you that you werent always hungry on?? i want to lose weight slowly and do something realistic because afterall, i want to keep it off....

Answer:
"only problem with those diets are that once you get off....your most likely gonna gain the weight back, i did." The healthy lifestyle encouraged by Weight Watchers and Nutrisystem are meant to be a permanent way of eating and living. Obviously, if you stop following the diet, you'll probably gain weight back. Weight Watchers worked great for me. I didn't go hungry at all, as long as I made filling choices with my points. If you choose less filling ways to spend your points (sodas, sweets, carbs, etc, instead of fiber-rich foods and good lean proteins), then you'll end up being hungrier. You should also make sure you're getting some moderate exercise every day. That's important for your overall health and well being. The best way to lose weight and get healthy is to eat healthy *and* exercise. Also, your weight doesn't make you gross. I've been over 200lbs for quite some time now, and I wouldn't consider myself gross at all. Yes, I'm working on losing weight to get healthier, and I know that carrying the extra weight isn't good for me, but I take care of myself, practice good hygiene, exercise regularly, and I'm working on eating much healthier. I'm not gross, and my husband doesn't think so, either, and I highly doubt that you're gross. It's important that you learn to love your body for how healthy it is and the wonderful things it does for you (growing and birthing your child, getting you around, breathing - the human body is amazing). Don't focus on a number on the scale or an unrealistic "supermodel" body. Focus on your overall health and well being. You're beautiful. :)

Any time you're hungry -- eat. Just not too much. If you are still hungry at the end of your wee meal, eat more -- but wait twenty minutes first. Sometimes you'll still be hungry, and that's cool, go on and eat -- but most of the time, in twenty minutes, you'll realise you don't need more. 80lbs by summer is perhaps too ambitious. I ended up something like 30lbs heavier post-baby -- then I lost 40lbs; it took me almost two years, but that was definitely the way to go; there's no way it's coming back. Large portions make me queasy now; I eat lots of little meals and like it. Don't starve yourself; find a way of eating that you _like_ and want to do for the rest of your life, whether it's little meals or boatloads of watery soup or whatever.
Awww...please don't feel like you are gross...I'm 208lbs so I know how you feel but its not all about whats on the outside. Inside counts for so much. I have the same problem you do...I'm always hungry. That being said I have decided the best way for me to lose weight is to skip any kind of diet crap. I am going to focus on eating healthier instead and if I lose weight great...if not then at least I know I am putting healthy foods into my body rather then junk. I have a bad snacking habit that I need to work on. If I need a snack then I'm going to stick to some healthy snack choices. I'm not going to buy my dinner when I work anyone (maybe once a month I will allow myself) I am going to pack a meal and make myself eat it. Leave my money ands bank card at home if I need to so I can't buy food. I also find I eat when I'm bored so if I feel hungry I just need to occupy myself. I'm hoping this is something I will stick to for myself because I really do need it. I also often mistake thirst for hunger. I need to drink more!

Atkins worked well for me when I was on it. After a week or so, since I wasn't having many carbs or sugar I wasn't hungry, and started craving water and healthy things.

I am doing what is basically weight watchers for free (counting the points etc., but using online calculators) and I have been feeling full. What I am doing is eating LOTS of veggies. Mostly yellow ones. For instance things like acorn squash, pumpkin, rutabega. Also baked fruits like peaches and pears. These things taste like desserts, but are just fruits and veggies. It is a slow weight loss, but I really haven't been starving like I would normally be. I am eating what my hubbie's prediabetic diet diagramaed, which is 1/6 of the plate meat, 1/6 starch, and the other 2/3 load up on fruits and veggies. It is well balanced so it keeps you full longer, and with all that fruit and veggies you can load up the plate. I've done Atkins, and although I was full, I also felt sick all the time, and if you slip up it is a DISASTER. The weight watchers thing is really working well for me, it is free (how I am doing it) and it is very moderate. Not an extreme diet. The extra 35 points make it so I never really cheat, which was always a problem because I would go "oh well, I cheated anyway, might as well eat a gallon of Ben and Jerry's". I'm also not setting a weight goal by blank time. I am weighing in once a week to make sure I am on the right diet, but I am focusing on the eating, not the losing weight. The weight loss lets me know I am focusing on eating correctly, but the eating is the focus, not the weight. Try using sweet veggies and baked fruits to replace the sweets. A little sugar and cinnamon really can go a long way on a butternut squash or a pear. It is getting to be winter to, so running the oven will help warm your house anyway. :D I don't think it is possible to gain weight on veggies. It is tough anyway. And the squash family is REALLY tasty! To feel full and lose weight make veggies your new best friend, but add in a little fat and protein to keep the full feeling longer. For instance fried cabbage with a little bacon. Cabbage itself is pretty boring, but fry it in pam with 1 tsp butter also, add salt, pepper and 1 tsp sugar, then top with 2 slices of cooked and crumbled bacon and it is really good! The extra stuff comes to about 100 cals, but the volume is large, and the fiber + some fats really helps satiety.

The G.I diet, it's by far the simplest diet and most effective I've ever done. I lost 50lbs on it in 4 months. It goes by a light system ( like a traffic light ) Foods under the red caterogy are a NO Foods under the yellow category are OK in very small amounts. and you can have as many foods under the green light category. Very easy book to understand. There's an express version on Amazon.com, and the recipes are quick and delicious. The best part... NO calorie counting! I was ALWAYS full, there is even sample menus.

I'm not the type to be any good at a fully structured diet plan....too much room to make mistakes, get confused and stray...at least for me. So I just try to stick to two components 1- eat protein as that will make you feel full longer, and 2- drink LOTS of water. I always want to snack and nibble, and I've managed to cut out lots of those snacks by just chugging a thing of water in it's place. I still eat lots of small meals a day as you should as well, but those extra snacks on top of all that really get to me, plus I never consumed enough water over the course of the day as well, so it took care of two birds with one stone. Maybe if you still want a structured diet routine, you could just keep those tidbits in mind and add them to the routine.

I don't diet. I never could figure out why somebody would want to deprive themselves of the very things they need to live to be healthy or to fit into our culture's warped sense of "pretty". About five years ago, I was blessed with being able to self educate on what to eat. (I found free subscriptions to "Energy Times" magazine, "Vegetarian TImes" magazine, "Experience Life" and I think a couple of others that taught me a few things.) I also quit smoking, got more active and started to realize what I was and wasn't doing to my body and to myself. Now, I do everything within my power to eat whole, real foods. I try to avodi white flour, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oils, hydrogenated oils, artificial colors and artificial flavors and anything that looks as though it was crated in a lab by humans and not in nature buy God. Other than being 36 (37?) weeks pregnant I really don't have any health problems. My in-laws eat a lot of processed foods, including my sister-in-law who is vegetarian. (They are visiting and tonight for dinner, she had a Boca pattie with no bread, a bit of ketchup, and Cheetos. Real healthy. Earlier, she went to a coffee house and had a large piece of chocolate cake. Most of what she eats I would not consider healthy. She also complains about being overweight. Go figure.) They are also all sedentary. Before my pregnancy, I was active around the house doing things, which helped keep my weight down. Unfortunately, I've had several things during pregnancy that helped me be inactive-- The early pregnancy of being nauseous and fatigued. In the middle of my pregnancy, my feet swelled, making it difficult to walk. Also, I we went on our annual Lakeside, OH tirp and I wore a pair of sneakers with no socks, One of the shoe tongues rubbed my foot causing it to infect and my foot to swell even more. Thankfully, antibiotics helped with that. Now, I'm at the tail end and I feel as though I can barely move to get up to go to the bathroom. Ugh. However, I'm going to get back into shape. I have to. I miss being active.

Accouple years ago I tried the "Body for Life" diet(book by Bill Phillips) and it worked great! I still use the basic principles today when I feel I'm gaining a few pounds and I'm able to shed them right away. Basically you eat 6 meals a day. (1)Breakfast is a protein and carb, (2)mid morn snack is protein bar or shake, (3)lunch is a protein, carb and veggie, (4)mid afternoon snack is protein bar or protein shake, (5)dinner is protein, carb and veggie, and then a (6)snack after dinner is a protein bar, shake or pudding... The book gives you a list of what are the suggested proteins(meats, eggs), carbs(breads, pasta, fruit) and veggies. Bill Phillips also wrote a second book called " Eating for Life". It's a cookbook with the same principles in mind. Give it a try. I was always full on this diet. Some days I didn't even eat all 6 meals!!!
