Is it normal to have fever after a cold?

How long is it normal for a toddler to have a fever with a cold and ear infection?

  • My child is 17 months old. He had a 103 degree fever and deep cough so he saw the doctor on call this weekend. He was given breathing treatments and the doctor said he was developing a cold so keep giving him tylenol and motrin every four hours while fever persists. The next day he saw his regular doctor and he also has a double ear infection. He started an antibiotic yesterday. His fever will go down to around 100.5 then go right back up to close to 103. It has been 3 days. How long will this fever last?

  • Answer:

If it is a slight fever, please let it take it's course... that's nature's way of killing it on it's own. Tylenol, etc., just hinders the healing process. Ear aches... I got rid of my child's ear ache with a special mullein (sp?) and garlic oil concoction from a natural remedy store. No antibiotics... that's asking for more trouble down the line. Also, avoid dairy... the major culprit for ear aches. Make sure he's getting lots of water, no sugar or processed foods, fresh air and lots of sound sleep. You may want to try Peroxide in the ears too. Hope he gets better soon.
