What teens can do on new years?

TEENS: What is your New Years Resolution?

  • I have no clue what mine is going to be yet; but I'm thinking of something along the lines of being more outgoing and open to more friends etc. Whats yours? BQ: Have you ever succeeded in New Years Resolution? What was it? BQ2: If you made one last year, what was it? Have a nice day! (:

  • Answer:

It's currently 11:50 pm before the new year, so I might finish this a tad bit late, but I'd thought I'd post my resolutions anyway. I gasped when I read Kirsty's because our goals are so aligned. : ) In no specific order... ~ To read more books. I'm a bit peeved about the amount of reading I got done in 2009, and am determined to read more. My list on paper: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AhZmtkWUmoKd1zpvCyAMCp7ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20091228041135AAG1MKI&show=7#profile-info-usvPMtMtaa I've been wasting too much time watching movies, and I need to tone it a down. I'm kicking off the resolution with "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte. : ) ~ To journal / freewrite for at least 5 minutes every day. I'm a writer, and I've noticed recently I haven't been taking time to just process my thoughts onto paper. Writing releases inner built stress for me, and kick starts my creativity. ~ To exercise for at least 20 minutes every day. I will make a habit of either waking up in the morning to get a quick jog, or get a workout in after school. Consequently I might have to start drinking coffee but it's worth it. The adrenaline rush is what triggers all my thought processes. ~ Spend at least 5 minutes to "meditate" in solitude every day. I'm Agnostic and am really not at all sure about how my religious views; but I want to be a bit more attuned spiritually. ~ To continue achieving the best grades I can achieve. Personal achievement isn't a one-size-fits-all kind of standard, and I really want to focus on accomplishing the best of my ability, in my own power. I will concentrate on myself, rather than comparing myself to others. ~ To remind myself on a daily basis that, given all my imperfections, I am who I am, and proud of it. There is no limit to bettering yourself, and my priority is to simply "expand." I want to get to know myself, to experiment, to enjoy and love life and its thrills and downfalls and beauty. BQ: Until now, I haven't been very serious with my New Year's Resolutions! BQ2: Last year I pledged to make the basketball team, which I did. Quotes that have inspired me: "Aurora Musis amica" ~ Dawn is a friend of the muses "Ad astra per aspera" ~ To the stars through difficulty “Do not let your fire go out, spark by irreplaceable spark in the hopeless swaps of the not-quite, the not-yet, and the not-at-all. Do not let the hero in your soul perish in lonely frustration for the life you deserved and have never been able to reach. The world you desire can be won. It exists… it is real… it is possible…it's yours.” ~ Ayn Rand And last but not least... “Be of good cheer. Do not think of today's failures, but of the success that may come tomorrow. You have set yourselves a difficult task, but you will succeed if you persevere; and you will find a joy in overcoming obstacles. Remember, no effort that we make to attain something beautiful is ever lost.” ~ Helen Keller I wish you all the very best with your New Year's Resolutions, and to everyone a happy and peaceful night. : )

I haven't really got a New Years Resolution but I am more inclined to just have points to remember so next year will be better. I've written them down in my online journal and I'm going to summarise them here: 1. Journal every day even if just for 5 minutes. I already journal at least once a week but I think I should scrape some more time out for myself during the school year because otherwise I get stressed. I find that journaling helps me put things in perspective and I can get things off my chest before I go to sleep. I don't like writing down into a book as much as typing because it is quicker and easier to type and find entries. 2. Work on my confidence. During the past few months my confidence has gone from rock bottom to just below average and back down again. A few months ago I asked a question on here about how low I felt about myself and got terrific answers that I read over every time I'm feeling low again. I'm going to work on this by replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. I've already made a playlist on iTunes of songs that make me feel confident and I actually listen to some of these songs while preparing to go to school. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mq86e4Fhja0) 3. Though I'm not fully sure of my religion and consider myself agnostic for the time being, I'd like to pray more often to appreciate what I've been blessed with and pray for the health and well-being of other people. A girl this year tourmented me about my religion and said I couldn't pray if I was never Christened. To her I say, get lost. I was the victim of verbal abuse directed at my religious beliefs and I felt the need to defend myself. I don't want other people to tell me how I should live my life in this aspect as I am quite fine with out them. 4. To exercise for at least a half hour each day. This shouldn't be hard considering most days I walk for an hour to and from school and do yoga at least weekly. But I'd like to continue crawling out of bed early in the morning for a jog or run because I find after I do, I'm more alert for the day. 5. To continue getting better grades. I'll do this by turning off MSN when studying and doing homework (unlike this year), paying more attention in class, doing extra reading on the topics, setting a time for homework rather than continually putting it off and also to make a good study area. There's 5 of 10 of my goals for next year. This answer is too long! BQ: I'm not usually one to make New Years Resolutions but mine for 2008 was to make more friends and I totally did that. I came out of my shell and I've found where I really belong. I was bullied in primary school and now I have a lot of friends from a lot of different groups. BQ2: I didn't make one last year... I didn't give it much thought.

To go fully vegetarian for a month by the end of the year, because I've been trying to go veggie for the last 6 months and I keep cracking and eating meat, lol. I'm reasoning that I might do better if I take it a little bit at a time. That's my proper resolution, but I also have a couple of other goals that I'd like to achieve by the end of the year. I've succeeded in keeping my new year's resolutions a few times, a couple of years ago it was simply 'to have a good year' (after having had a really awful one) and I succeeded in that. Last year it was to learn to juggle and I managed that one too :) I think the easiest way to keep to it is to have something small and manageable, and make it something that you can measure - so 'be more outgoing' might not be a good one, but 'I will join a new afterschool society so I can meet more people' might be. Hope this helps. x

New Year's resolutions are a fabulous way of getting motivated, but often after the first few weeks of the new year, we tend to "forget" them. My main resolution this year is not to neglect my other resolutions. I had a bet with my mother to see who could make the most meaningful resolutions this year, and I won with twenty of them. I am obviously not going to post all twenty here, that would be madness, but some of the most important ones on my list are to become well-read (I love reading, I truly do, but often I find that I read books that haven't impacted literature in any way, and I wish to change that), be more outgoing and social (after breaking up with my boyfriend, I withdrew to the safety of my bedroom for quite some time and refused to go out with friends, even to big parties), and lose weight without the need to turn to anorexia or bulimia (I was bulimic when I was 12 and anorexia hit me at 13. My weight slumped to low for my height two summers ago, but last year I recovered and, although I am so grateful for it, I still wish to lose a bit of weight but no more than 10 pounds). Oh, and obviously, to get perfect grades because this year is my most important year yet at highschool and I need to ace everything if I want to become a lawyer. My last year's main resolution was to recover from anorexia, and I managed to do it with the dear support of many kind, loving and motivating friends and family members who were at my side the entire time. I wish everybody good luck in their own resolutions. You can do it ! Happy New Year. ♥
