My parents want me to drop out of high school. What should I do?
-
My grandparents say that since I'm turning 16 in a few months I should drop out of school and get a GED. They don't understand why I won't drop out - as many of my other family members have done it and they have "good jobs" as they say. My parents don't quite get why I want to go to college either; they think its pointless, but they say I can go to college with a GED if I want. My grandparents are thinking of sending me to live with my mother - whom I've never lived with - as they say they don't wish to handle me being in school. I've tried talking to my grandparents about this but they don't get the point and I don't get their point.

Answer:
Your grandparents are doing a terrible job raising you. They are giving you the worst possible advice. STAY IN SCHOOL AND GRADUATE.

stay and school and go to college. if your school has meetings about how important college is, make them go. it's really important that you stay and school and then go to college- your family may be doing okay, but it's crucial that you get your own education

Don't drop out of high school. You might be able to make a living without going to college... pick up a trade or whatnot, plenty of ways to make money. But life isn't all about just having a paying job. College lets you EXPLORE life, learn about anything you want, make friends, etc. College might just be the most exciting time of your life, and you are doing yourself a big disfavor if you drop out of school now. You can come out of college and get a job that you are really passionate about, you will earn more, and you have more opportunities. It's your life. Don't let anyone push you around, even your grandparents. You will regret it later.

Go to school!!the reason sthey want you to drop out is bc there tired of taking an picking u up most likely there being selfish an yea your family member might have good jobbs but they could have better jobs witha high school diploma an college degree it takes you longer in college to get a degree if all you have is a ged so dont quit tell them to stick it withtheir selfish ***
Tell you grandparents that if they do all that, then you will have them in a nursing home within 2 years of ground of insanity. They clearly don't care of love you that much if they dont want to deal with their future. Another way to solve this, would be to jump out from behind doorways screaming at them really loud, or popping cap guns in their faces to bring in an early heart attack. Best of luck.

yeah tell them no. i knew a lot of kids growing up who raced the clock to graduate early because they knew that once the clock hit 16 they'd be signed out of school forever. knew even more that only went to school half day because they had work to do. try talking to your school about it, they might be able to help you convince your family to let you stay in school. if not you are 16 and if you really wanted to take the hard way you could get emancipated.

I would say go with your decision and stick with it. You still can go to college with a GED but it is HARDER to a get accepted into a college.

If your grandparents are not supportive of you continuing your education then you should move in with a parent or family member or friend's that is (but if friend get your legal guardian to sign over guardianship letter/papers to them so they can act legally on your behalf like a parent). You can also ask for the city clerk at town/city hall to help you get papers for amancipation (making you a legal adult). You take them to your legal guardian (grandparent or parent) and once signed and filed at city hall you are legally an adult. You can then call your own shots and go live wherever you like without anyone ever telling you what to do again. You can also ask your grandparents to send you to job corps. You can finish high school and get vocational training with room, food, insurance, and everything paid for you for free. If you want a ged you can do that thru them too. If you want to stay at your school and living with mom will not do that then setup a meeting with a counselor (after you have xplained to the counselor why you want to meet) and have him/her meet with your grandparents so they can try to sway them. Sometimes adults needs to hear why from another adult. They may feel that the adult knows more that they and you do if they are an "expert" in this and take it more seriously. Also talk to everyone in your family about this and their friends and try to get them to be a sympathetic advocate for you with your grandparents. Tell them and and ask them to help you sway your grandparents. If enough people pressure them in their own family or circle they may come around. They may see the error in their ways. Also explain that things have rapidly changed in just the past few years and that it is vital now to have an education along with higher education. Do whatever you have to in order to get your education. If that means living with your mom, your dad, an aunt/uncle, or whomever will provide for you and your legal guardian will sign off on you living with that will allow you to do that in a safe enviroment that will provide for your needs (food, shelter, clothing, healthcare), then you do it! In the end you and you alone will determine your future by what you do today. You do have options.
