How can I get my mom to let me get a short haircut?

I'm not trying to get the haircut because I want to follow the crowd, blah blah blah. I want short hair because I'm tired of putting my hair in a ponytail all the time. I'm always busy and active, that's why my hair is always in a ponytail. Plus, I want to just wake up, change my clothes, and go without even have to worry about my hair. I told my mom this and she still doesn't want to get me the haircut. One way I thought of doing is making my bestfriend book me an appointment at a hair salon and pay for my haircut as a present because my birthday is coming up. So it'll be like a surprise, and my mom wouldn't be able to stop me from getting my haircut, because it is a present and she is the traditional type meaning she wouldn't want to look ungrateful. The thing is, I'll feel guilty about it afterwards, and I don't want that. Is there any other way I can get my mom to let me get the haircut that suits my lifestyle?

  It may be better to win her over to your decision before you get the cut. Show her some photos of cute short hairstyles on google images. There are some very stylish ones there. I'm sure she would approve of one of them- especially some of ones the celebrities are wearing.
