how do american school systems work ? in England &wales it is Reception Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 Year 6 (primary education) Year 7 Year 8 Year 9 Year 10 Year 11 (secondary) (GCSE year) Year 12 (sixth form) Year 13 (sixth form) here we finish school when we are 16, or if you want carry and do a levels in school until you are 18. we start high school when we are 11.

Reception - Pre K Year 1 - Kintergarten Year 2 - 1st Grade Year 3 - 2nd Grade Year 4 - 3rd Grade Year 5 - 4th Grade Year 6 - 5th Grade Elementry school. Year 7 - 6th Grade - Year 8 7th Grade Year 9 8th grade Middle School Year 10 - Freshman Year 11 - Sophmore Year 12 Junior Year 13 Senior (highschool) Turm starts August and ends in May, they also don't have Half term or anything here! I grew up in england and am now studying in USA :)

It's cool. Our school system in Norway is: Grades 1-7 is Primary school that we call it Barneskole (age 6–13) Grades 8-10 is Lower secondary school that we call it Ungdomsskole (age 13-16) Grades VG1-VG3 is Upper secondary school that we call it Videregående skole (age 16-19) The school year in Norway runs from mid August to late June the following year.

Elementary school- kindergarten through 6th grade. Ages 4/5 - 11/12. Middle school - 7th - 8th grade. Ages 13 - 14/15. High school - 9th - 12th grade. Ages 15/16 - 17/18. That's just my school district. It's different in other school districts. Typically you start high school at 14 or 15 and end high school at 17 or 18. Then you go onto college.

It goes: Elementary/Primary school: Preschool (Optional,4-5 year olds) Kindergarten (Mandatory, 5-6 year olds) First Grade (6-7) Second Grade (7-8) Third Grade (8-9) Fourth Grade (9-10) Fifth Grade (10-11) Some schools start middle school in the fifth grade but usually it starts in 6th grade. Middle school/ Jr. High School Sixth Grade (11-12) Seventh Grade (12-13) Eighth Grade (13-14) High school: Ninth Grade (Freshman year, 14-15) Tenth Grade (Sophomore year, 15-16) Eleventh Grade (Junior year, 16-17) Twelfth Grade (Senior year, 17-18) Then you can go to college.
