What happened to pre-teen/teen TV?
-
I know that when I was young, we had shows like Smart Guy, Brotherly Love, Saved By The Bell, and Lizzie McGuire. Maybe they're not your everyday teens, but you could relate to them. Even Teen Angel, You Wish, Two Of A Kind, and Sister Sister dealt realistic teen issues. Nowadays, almost every single TV show aimed towards pre-teens has someone trying to become a famous rockstar. Hannah Montana, Victorious, Shake It Up, just to name a few, are this generations pre-teen/teen shows, and concentrate primarily on how hard it is to become famous and how hard it is being famous. Even the language being used is completely different. With young children watching these shows, should they be allowed to say "idiot" or "crap"? What happened to the days when shows were used to teach good morals? I'm aware that older shows were also strange, but at least every second show wasn't convincing children that being famous is an everyday thing.

Answer:
I agree. These shows are made for preteens but I watch Degrassi and That '70s Show.

My view as a whole on this is that TV is NOT there to teach your children, you are. Don't expect television to be moral and perfectly angelic because those producers don't care how your kids turn out, they care only about how much money they make and I find it utterly ridiculous that parents would even consider the Disney Channel or Nickelodeon as a way of forming their children's moral attitude.

Shows like Victorious have been swarmed by younger kids. The older kids don't wanna watch the lame kiddy shows so we watch what we shouldn't be... South Park, Sex and the City, Glee, etc. I wish I had cool shows, but now, I only watch Pretty Little Liars, Discovery, Cake Boss, Say Yes to the Dress, and Animal Planet lol.

I LOVE Sister Sister and Saved By the Bell. I still watch both of these, and I used to watch Lizzie McGuire. The media is changing, that sums it up best. Kids started watching shows meant for older viewers, and I guess they started showing shows like we have now in order to still appeal to kids.
i know disney is crap now! i miss smart guy and boy meets world. i hate disney now....except for the classics
