What else can we do to have a socially and environmentally responsible, absolutely awesome prom?
-
Activism is a passion at my school, and we are striving to use our prom as an opportunity to benefit some of the causes we support in addition to having a spectacular event. The motivation for the theme and décor is “green peace,” and we have put a lot of thought and effort into making our prom as environmentally and socially conscious as possible. We are still seeking ideas for what more we can do, and it would be fabulous if you could share any suggestions. Did your school do anything similar? If you’re interested in reading about what we have done thus far and gathering resources for your next prom or event, please click here: http://skylarkmelody.xanga.com/703621631/ideas-for-how-you-can-have-a-socially-and-environmentally-responsible--absolutely-awesome-prom/ Our efforts for making the prom awesome include converting classrooms into hair and makeup studios and having professional stylists come and help the girls get ready; inviting the parents to come to the school for a pre-prom reception and the photo opps; and caravanning in hybrid SUVs to the location where we are having the prom and dinner. The underclassman in the jazz band have volunteered to play for us during the dinner, which is being catered by an amazing eco-friendly company. In keeping with the “green” motif, the theme of the prom is “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and the ballroom is being decorated to look like the Emerald City. I truly think it’s going to look stunning when we have it all set up. We have an incredible DJ, and a huge dance floor. There will be a professional photographer and his assistants and videographer to capture everything. The catering company is going to keep us well stocked with drinks and things to munch on, including insanely yummy cupcakes that are being adorably decorated to match the theme. Each person will receive a swanky little gift bag loaded with goodies. We’re caravanning to the After-Prom, and have a lineup of activities for the rest of the night. If you were attending this prom do you think you’d have a wonderful time? Is there anything listed above that you would’t like? Any feedback you may have would be sooooo appreciated. I’d also love to know about your prom experience, so please share the theme, décor, music and all that jazz, and tell me what you did and didn’t like about the evening. I’m on the prom committee, and am hoping the night will be memorable, magical and marvelous, and I’d be really grateful if you could give me any ideas or advice on what else we can do to make sure it is all those things and more. Apologies for the length of the question, and thank you for taking the time to read it and answer. Thanks in advance for your ideas, and ((((hugs))) to all my contacts. : )

Answer:
I honestly can't think of anything else that you can do to make it more environmentaly friendly because ALL of those ideas are amazing! I really, REALLY like how from buying their dresses and are donating money to charities. I think your school and prom commitee has done an absoloutely AMAZING job of planning this out and it is going to be fantastic night! Can I come too!? At my school, we don't have proms... Or my country? We have 'formals' which are basically the same thing (i think) but.. I haven't been. :/ I'm not much help AT ALL but just thinking about it makes me excited! It sounds spectacular!!!

I think your school is already doing pretty good. I would just hope that there aren't any drugs or alcohol involved. Are you guys 21 and under? I know this sounds stupid, but I know that even older kids do illegal things, and that annoys me. No matter how good, well planned and creative a prom can be, there are always chances of something going wrong. So maybe your school can have a little lecture about not doing anything illegal. I think I would like the prom as long as the people are nice. Being in 9th grade, I skipped the prom because I knew other kids would be mean to me. I don't care what the prom is like or how "cool" it is, I will not go if I know I will be made fun of. But since your prom is eco friendly, the people must be a little better too since they are contributing to it. So I would try going, especially since it is not your typical prom.

I think you have all your bases covered.. Over-covered, probably. Did you kids sleep at all?!? Maybe you should protest your final exams. Call them a waste of paper.
