Is it possible to break you ear?

Did I just break my 2 yr old ear drum?

  • I was cleaning his ear with q-tip (I know I am not supposed to but I did that with all my kids with no accidents,just cleaning the outside ear )and he moved then the q-tip went a little too deep and after a few seconds he had a little blood. Is that a symptom of perforation of the eardrum membrane and will he loose his hearing?

    I do not know the answer to your question, however, as a Mom of 3, I can suggest calling your local ER. (If you do not want to disturb your Ped. in the evening.) The can tell you if you should worry or not. If they suggest taking him in, go ahead and do it, because your not going to get any sleep anyhow from worrying. Or they might tell you just to keep an eye on him and follow up with your Ped. tomorrow. It won't hurt to call and it should comfort you some.

You might want to take them to a doctor, bleeding from the ears is a very serious sign of head injury... The blood may have been the result of something you havent seen, like them falling down or something

Take him to a pediatrician. NEVER use a Q-tip to clean anyone's ears including your own. Only clean the outer areas with a wash cloth.

You could've. Take him to the doctor. His hearing will be fine, even if you did. Sometimes with a bad ear infection, your ear drum bursts on it's own!

I would take him to the dr.'s in the morning. Your child's hearing is not something to tamper with. Bloody discharge from the ear is a bad sign. I hope it will all be ok. Good luck.

Call your doctors regular number, they usually have a number for an on call guy. Tell them what happened. They will probably tell you to go in, but call before you decide. They probably know better than us Yahoo Answers people!
