Activities for me and my kids over summer?

Activities for kids in the summer!!!! I'm a new nanny and need help!!?

  • I've started caring for a families children for the summer the only problem is the kids are far apart in age and sex that both have complete different interests. The oldest is a 10 year old boy while his sister is 5 years old. The only thing they have in common is watching the suite life series and playing on the trampoline. Because I'm a new driver I'm not legally allowed to drive the kids, so we're house bound all day. I'm looking for things that could be done both inside and outside, along with different weather possibilities. The weather forecast is always changing so the weather is unpredictable each day. I could really use some help with ideas of things to do.

  • Answer:

Outdoor Ideas: -Scavenger hunt -Picnic -Sidewalk chalk -Obstacle course in the backyard -Sprinkler/Slip-n-Slide -Water fight Indoor Ideas: -Put together an art box with random supplies and just let them go to it -Cooking activities -Board games (yes, there are some that a 10 year old and a 5 year old can play together) -Make slime! Easy- cornstarch & water, or for a rubbery slime you can hold in your hands, Borax, hot water, and white glue. Do they have bikes? Take them for a walk. Kids love to swim. If they don't have a pool, turn the water hose loose on them. Let them jump on the trampoline, then bring their lunch outside and spread out a blanket for a picnic in the yard. Bake with them. Let them help you mix up brownies or cookies. Play board games with them. Ask the ten year old to "help" his little sister w/ a game on her level, then put in a dvd or something for her and reward the boy by playing a card game or board game more on his level. You play it with him. Do puzzles together. The five year old will be more willing to do a puzzle than you'd think. Read to them! The girl will love it, and the boy may act like he don't like it or think he's too old, but if you start reading he will sit and listen. My ten year old does anyways. And, you could have him read to you.
