OK Mom's Dad's or Teachers PLEASE ! I need Help With My 6Yr old son. Should I hold Him Back from Kinder garden

Have you spoken with his teacher about holding him back or what you can do to better his education? Jmho, but start working with him on the basics, such as his ABC's, numbers, counting, animals, shapes. Go to the library more often and read to him. If he's behind on his ABC's, he's going to be behind in reading and writing, so foresee these obstacles ahead. Don't expect him to learn everything in school. Learning starts at home.

At 6 he should be more advanced. Is he far behind other boys in his class? ADHD is an immediate presumtion. There are lots of other things that could affect his learning, hearing problems are a huge one, sight problems, colour blindness or dislexia and more. Have you talked to your Doctor school couseller about this? If not I would seek professional help ASAP. If you sort it out now then he has a reasonable chance of a normal school life. Good Luck.

It will teach him to sit still and perform a task (good practice for school) give him LOTS of praise when he focuses and sits still. Your son is 6 years old, an accurate diagnosis for attention deficit and other learning disorders can be made. Perhaps you should take him for an assessment. At 6 years old, I think he should be attending school, If you do these things to support him, he should do really well, in time.

get him assessed to see if he has it. If need be, if your school offers summer school for the kindergartener's place him in there to try and catch him up. If he doesn't fair well in summer school, hold him back. Now is the time to do it, he will be better off. Our school offers summer school for kindergartner who need extra help with their reading/cognitive abilities each year. all three of my boys went through it and it did make a difference when they got to first grade. Debating about my daughter though. She knows her stuff just likes tobe lazy and act like she doesn't know it. All the boys are adhd and it made a big difference in school for their learning ability and everything else... Best of luck... ps, talk to the school counselor and have them do some diagonistic tests to rule out any other learning disability before getting him checked out for adhd. He might be dyslexic or have something along those lines. Cant hurt to try them first. If you request itin writing, they have to respond within a certain amount of time so make sure it is in writing and keep a copy for your self. Best of luck

You can get reasonable learning books at the store. Sit down with him and make it fun so that he would want to learn.My son just turned 5 last December and he enjoys writing in the activity books. Get together and just make learning into a game since he likes to play so much.

Despite all the advice you might get about holding kids back, research has proved that it really doesn't help and may hinder your child's improvement. Definitely get him assessed and have a conference with your child's teacher and the guidance counselor. Working with him at home will make the difference. My daughter was behind grade level reading by the first report card and was on target by the second because we did so much at home.

my little bro is 6 and before he started school he wouldn't sit down or behave he was all ways up and ruining around,and being a little rotter but since he has been in school he is a lot better he will sit down for more than a few sec,s he not as hypo as he uesed to be , when my put him in school she told the teachers what he was like but he hasnt been no truble.he has been in school now for 2 years

I wouldn't hold him back but I would work with him at home or take him to Sylvan or a similar tutoring place to get him up to speed. I doubt he has ADHD he is just a regular kid and a lot of them don't like to sit still and get distracted easily. If you take him to Sylvan he will get one on one tutoring from a professional which will greatly benefit him.

i held my son back and it was the best thing for him. as far as ADHD i have another son with it. and you son probaly is the smarted child in his class but no one knows it. he cant sit still long enough to show what he can do. take him to his doctor. ask about a med called concerta. it has made all the difference in my son. it does not make him sleepy or any thing. it just helps him sit still and concentrate on one thing at a time. he also sleeps better since he doesnt have all the things that he should have done going through his head. as a result, my ADHD child is a straight A student. good luck with your son.
