What can I do on the last day of Kindergarten?

Kindergarten parents, what can your child's teacher do to put you at ease on the first day?

  • I am a first year kindergarten teacher. I am very excited about my incoming class of kindergarteners, but quite nervous as well. What would you suggest I do to put parents at ease for that first day of kindergarten? If you've had a kindergartener in the past, what did his/her teacher to do to make you both feel comfortable and welcome? If you are a kindergarten teacher, please give me some advice.

  • Answer:

At the orientation(when you meet your teacher, find your classroom, etc.), she had made up little ziploc baggies and each one had a tissue, an individual green tea bag, and a little note to the parents saying not to worry. Have a cup of tea and cry it out if you have to on their first day, but be proud and know that your child is being taken care of and is growing up.....something to that effect. It eased my mind and made me feel better about the whole thing.

My daughter is about to go into first grade so we went through this last year. The teacher invited all the parents in on the first day of classes and let them stay for a little bit and let the kids get settled in. Then all the parents left at the same time.

A letter of introduction telling the parents what kinds of things you will be doing on the first day. This also opens up communication with the kids after school that day because the parents will know what to ask about!

well what i would do is say hello to the parents and say i will take care of care of your child then you ask the child whats your name then then say there nothing to scared of and then tell he or she what your going to do that's all

I remember the first day of kindergarten. My mom walked me to the end of the driveway, and I got on the bus. I found my seat, and sat down. Then when I got to school, this really tall teacher escorted me to class. When I got home, I told my mom that my day was great and I couldn't wait until tomorrow. Those were the good old days. Just reassure them their child will be in good hands. :]
