How to keep my grades up?

How can I help my 10 year old keep getting good grades?

  • My 10 year old this year wasn't getting good grades in till this last report card. He brought D's and F's up to B's and A's. He has only one more grade period before the end of the school year and I hope to help him keep doing well with his schooling. We had him in a Sylvan (the school paid) but I can afford my self to keep him there.

  • Answer:

Ask your school for more help or for ideas you can implement. Many schools have mentoring or tutor programs that are free. Also speak to his teacher, and the people at Sylvan. Is there a college or university in your area? Some college students will put in volunteer hours tutoring kids. And make sure you praise him for doing such a good job.

If the Sylvan is working I would keep it up. Make sure you give lots of praise and that he knows how proud you are. Certainly check his homework every night but don't hover. He will learn more if he does it himself and only uses you when he is stumped.

Make it fun for him, let's say his learning how Christobal Colon came to America, if you have a bath tub, make three ships from paper, put some water in the tub, let him help you, and he can pretend to be Christobal Colon and you can be a native, as he's playing the part, be sure that all is part of the real history, every date, concept and idea of it, will become clear and easy for him. For every topic seen in school, there can be a meal, game or song that can help him have fun and learn, it has to come in through the 5 senses, use your imagination, create meals with him or new games, even new songs with the important concept of them in it, he'll have fun and learn easier and without all the stress, plus t will built his self esteem, and he'll see in you someone much more than just a mother.... Just make sure that you stop talking bout grades at home, that will just put pressure on him, and that can be contra-producing. Have fun and good luck!!!!!!

Just push him to get all A's and B's and if he does'nt then start taking privleges away from him.
