What careers could I have with a Human Services degree?

What careers will allow me to have Family time=? 2yr old child.?

  • im 24 yrs old , still young ,but i feel as though time is ticking and i need to finish my degree. Before i had my child i completed community college and transfered to a university. I took 2 classes in human services because i wanted to become and mft and then got pregnant. I'm happilly married ,my hubby has a demanding career and now that my son is 2 i need to go back to school. Im however undecided to what to study. a. school counselor b. speech path= in school setting c. elementary school teacher I want a career working with kids and to work in a school to spend as much time with my son on holidays & summers. Im torn between these careers. teaching = little pay & to much lesson plans. guidance counselor seems good ,but i need a masters. Speech path= a whole lot of money ,but i need my masters too. School isnt easy, but i dont know if ill be able to commit and get good grades with a 2yr old needing me all the time. What other short careers would be good?

  • Answer:

I would suggest teaching in an elementary setting. Teachers don't make bad money, they just don't get near enough as they should. In May 2008, elementary school teachers had average yearly wages of $52,240. So, it would be hard to support a family single handly on this income, your paycheck combined with your husband's would could be nice.
