Kid's magazines for age 8?

  • My niece who is 8 (3rd grade) just moved to USA 4 months ago. She got an unsatisfactory performance in English Reading, writing and comprehension at school. English was her second language before so she is trying really hard to catch up. What kid's magazines are best at this age to improve their reading and comprehension? I was thinking of Spider or Highlights. Any suggestions?

    All of these suggestions are really good. My 7 1/2 year old daughter LOVES American Girl. I ordered it for her on a whim and it is her absolute favorite. It also has a web site that goes with it www.americangirl.com. There are also books that go with dolls. My daughter is trying to read all of the books now. It is great historical fiction. The Zoobook is great if your niece is into animals and science. (www.zoobooks.com). My kids also liked National Geographic for Kids( kids.nationalgeographic.com) I also really like Highlights (www.highlights.com).

what about zoo books? they provide learning information and they are fun for kids to read, i have a 9 yr old son, and i have been getting them for him,high lights is also a good magazine for kids, spider never heard of spider, i might look it to them,

Go to the library and in the kids section is several My-first-book ...reading levels. Once a week take her to the library to pick out another one. Even if the words are hard, the pictures have a big part in telling the story.

zoo books are good because they teach you about animals and nick magazine is a good magazine because it's a nice and fun magazine for a kid to read

kids magazines for her age which she would enjoy to read would be Total Girl, Disney Girl, magazines like that about celebrities and girly stuff. i figure if she enjoyed what she was reading she would improve at reading

American Girl is a great one. It has stories and crafts for her to read about. The company also sells dolls that come with books for her to read. Ranger Rick if she likes animals.
