Do all kids go to summer school now, not just the ones having difficulties?

Let your child be a child and enjoy summer. Parents just send their kids as a babysitting service. It really does not help your child unless they are having trouble since it is not meant to challenge kids. At his age, summer school shouldnt even be an opition. Wait years and i mean atleast 5 years before you even consider it. You want him to enjoy school and summer should come as a reward for a good school year.

Yes, that is great. Summer is time for fun and no structure. Kids have such a short time being allowed to be kids, now we want to take their summers away too. Enjoy your son. There is plenty of learning he will get hanging out with you. I can't wait for summer.

personally, I like the summer programs, it gets the kids ready for next year, allows them time to make new friends. You , as a parent, have to decide what is best for your children. But, I think, honestly, more education can not hurt.

It's enough. Ignore it like I did. Kids need a break. Summer should be for less obvious education in a more relaxed setting.

If you don't work, then participating in the summer reading program is enough.

I think now-a-days, people are finding it harder and harder to have a stay at home parent. I think that summer school may be a way to help keep the costs lower. Almost like an unpaid babysitter. I have 4 daughters, and one needs summer school, one wants it (she's in high school now), she is a high achiever and wants to get as much education as possible to possibly graduate early and bounce off to college. If your child is doing fine, and you want that summertime to spend with him, then do that. He'll love spending time with you. That's something he will always remember and cherish. :)

summer school is a great idea for every body, i went to re-take a class so i could bring back up my GPA from a 3.6 to a 3.75. i also took a few classes that i would have to take and now i can take fun classes in their place... but then im in highschool, dont kno bout grade school.

If u feel ur son is doing great. i wouldnt send him, ur doing a lot with him for the summer so he will learn while with you. this is his time to have a break from school , just let it be, he sounds like a very smart child .. the learn fast with out going to summer school..

Our kids are able to take 2 classes a summer. Its for 6 weeks, 8-12. Monday thru Thursday. We have them take one school based class (math, reading, or a general all subject review) and then a fun class. Sewing, cooking, computer, games, art, music. Our teachers feel all children benefit from summer school.
